They didn't first name of woman: Jenny man: Kristoff
Both phonetic spellings. NBC 4 named them last night when they announced the cruelty charge
'

It's actually Jennie Chang and the husband is Christoph Lucas I believe.

So, on this thread, what are we seeing?

1) white privilege - oh, they're white and rich and this was just a silly misunderstanding

2) willful trolling - let me see how outrageously I can defend these people and stir up the pot

3) concerned but not that concerned - ok, yes, these people are stupid and foolish but it's not like they really harmed the kids by doing something truly terrible

4) outrage that anyone of any color or SES would do this

and it's 4 that's dominant.

Just looked her up on Facebook, the kids are really young. Wonder if they were strapped down in their car seats.

To think BOTH of them thought it would be a good idea to do this is very bothersome.

So what happens when you work for a government agency like that and are arrested for a crime like this? Will she be fired?

originator of this post - I agree 4 is dominant. I have just been shocked at the posts that are contrary to #4, bringing up unrelated issues, dismissing concerns, etc. I have a hard time seeing how anyone defends any aspect of this. I can maybe see a perspective of wow, that was dumb and horrible, but thy shouldn't lose their kids to this, but definitely be ordered to take parenting classes or something.

One of the parents came out to check on the kids while the police were at the car?

I am so disturbed by this story. What would possess two people who should know much better to do this?? One parent stays home with the kids. Or you get a babysitter. Or you make your own fun wine tasting at home. Or you go to a wine bar/restaurant and take the kids in with you. Or you just say "too bad it didn't work out for this weekend, we'll plan ahead for the next one." So many other things they could have done. I cannot imagine leaving my 2 yr old alone in the car ever, let alone on a freezing cold day. What effing selfish idiots.

According to this, the police went into Ris to arrest them. Crazy, crazy. Saturday afternoon was really cold!

it was so cold, i wanted to take the kid somewhere but i was getting over being sick all week and couldn't get motivated to leave. i keep reading this thread to figure out what the hell possessed two seemingly intelligent parents to do this. i have zero sympathy for them. NONE!

Only if she is convicted. However an employee who violates government policies on the misuse of the agency email system and employee privacy may be fired much sooner - and without an arrest and conviction.

People are downgrading the offense (5.5?) due to the price of their house and the fact that they are a married couple with advance degrees and better jobs. Wow! Just because they reflect many of your demographics doesn't make their crime any less of an offense. Given the fact that one of them could have stayed home with the kids or both could have cancelled, it is really terrible.

+100. I'm extra offended by the news outlets not showing their mugshots or disclosing their names. If they were low SES or a minority they would not have hesitated to put them on display both on TV and in print. I think it's actually a worse offense to do this and have the means to have someone watch your child. They deserved to be shamed like any other idiot parent that does this crap!
