Rank the Big 10 academically

I don't understand the NU hate.

My kid would've turned down 2 Ivies for NU had he not gotten into his first choice (also not an Ivy).

And Evanston is a nice neighborhood. I was much sadder seeing my kid decline NU than any of the Ivies he was accepted to.

I think the idea is that someone might choose to get a degree because they’re interested in a particular program or career and not for the sake of flexing on someone else.

Aren’t big ten schools known for rigorous football programs with excellent coaching staff?

That's the SEC.

It’s jealousy or insecurity, or both.

Good lord. Very, very few people here are claiming that NU isn't a great school. I think the debate is whether it's dramatically better than UCLA or Michigan. If you view the mere suggestion that NU might be compared to those schools as hate or criticism, I'd suggest reflecting on why NU's relative prestige is so important to you.

Bingo. I’m sure my kid isn’t the only one who didn’t have any interest in applying to NU. One of the few Top 20 they didn’t apply to, as it turned out.

It’s not jealousy or insecurity. It’s mockery directed at those of you who think NU is vastly superior.

I’m not seeing many posts claiming it’s “vastly superior”, but I’m seeing way more posts sh*tting on it and its location.

It’s an excellent school. It’s widely considered the best school academically in the Big Ten, and has been for generations.

+1. This is not in any way a controversial opinion…. The Big Ten should be proud to be home to so many academic powerhouses.

Wow, lot of deeply insecure parents here who sent their kid to Michigan or UCLA.

My dude, read your second paragraph and then reflect on your first paragraph.

BTW, DCUM shits on pretty much every college and particularly their locations. It's because people want different things in a location and because the internet encourages hyperbolic opinionating.

There are a ton of these posts on the middle pages of this thread.

NP. Vastly superior? No, of course not. But it’s not hyperbole to say Northwestern is considered the “best” school of the lot, academically speaking, in lay parlance. That is not in any way a controversial opinion, and it’s one held widely by most people outside of the one or two diehard haters on this thread.

For the record, I went to Illinois for undergrad…
