Good lord. Very, very few people here are claiming that NU isn't a great school. I think the debate is whether it's dramatically better than UCLA or Michigan. If you view the mere suggestion that NU might be compared to those schools as hate or criticism, I'd suggest reflecting on why NU's relative prestige is so important to you.

Bingo. I’m sure my kid isn’t the only one who didn’t have any interest in applying to NU. One of the few Top 20 they didn’t apply to, as it turned out.

It’s not jealousy or insecurity. It’s mockery directed at those of you who think NU is vastly superior.

I’m not seeing many posts claiming it’s “vastly superior”, but I’m seeing way more posts sh*tting on it and its location.

It’s an excellent school. It’s widely considered the best school academically in the Big Ten, and has been for generations.

That's fine, but also what are you sources? Have you surveyed "most people"? Does that include the West Coast? Does it take international reputation into consideration?

I'm being pedantic, but I like to push back on this forum's slavish belief in hierarchy, rankings, and ineffable notions of academic quality.

Given that’s you’re a Washington booster, I’m surprised you can even spell and use grammar. I hate wisco booster but he’s right. Wisco is just a better all around school, especially for business and liberal arts. Right now, Wisco is the most underrated public out there. Prob bc it’s cold, doesn’t have a super successful football team, and generally doesn’t recruit at coastal high schools like Michigan or BC do. Rn, I thinks it’s yield is ~30%. But it’s only a matter of time before the market realizes how well rounded Wisco is, causing the yield rate to sky rocket and the acceptance rate to plummet.

Washington absolutely shits all over ‘sconsin in all areas STEM, but sure, pretend that it’s the late 19th century and the humanities is where it’s at.

UCLA is the college personification of a bimbo and doesn't deserve to be as high on these lists. No doubt it attracts the same kinds of folks and boosters: shallow, to a tee. It doesn't help that all of the UCLA grads I know aren't exactly the brightest.
