Is Tulane the Ivy League of the South?

Emory is extremely diverse. This is excellent.

I feel like Emory is everybody’s second choice school. Although it’s a good school, Emory really is never somebody’s first choice school. This is in stark contrast, of course, to Georgetown.

Georgetown is in DC, Tulane is in New Orleans, and Emery’s Atlanta. Obviously, DC in New Orleans have draws meeting people want to live there. No one really wants to live in Atlanta.

I thought everyone at GT wanted to go to ND.

One school can’t be a League.

What?! No one wants to live in Atlanta when Atlanta is top 5 city for population growth? Most Emory student's applied Early decision, people say the dumbest things on this site.

Both are strong regionally and with solid national name recognition. On pure name recognition and prestige, Tulane is probably stronger within its region than Tufts and equal nationally.

No. Tufts is a very serious academic institution. Tulane is not Having similar acceptance rates or rankings in US news doesn’t change the fact

No affiliation with Tufts, but it draws the most serious and nerdy student

No doubt Tufts is objectively more selective but I don't think it is perceived as "better" in most of the country. Tulane has strong name recognition. There are not any Grisham books involving Tufts, are there?

Are you kidding?? I don’t have a kid at either but know both schools well and currently know many kids at both. Tufts is by far the better school with smarter, more serious and truly academic students. Tulane is a party school with smart enough kids who didn’t chose their college for academics reasons. Tufts is also better known and more highly regarded in professional circles. No comparison.

Tufts is a great school, but you are clearly not informed about Tulane's academics and its standing in professional circles. It's far more than a party school for rich kids.

NP, but I, too, had the image of Tulane students being less academically focused. I think of Enory and Tufts as akin. So I checked: Tufts’s admitted student profile for 2021 shows a mid 50% range for SAT of 1490-1540 (Emory’s is identical), vs Tulane’s mid 50% range was 1410-1500. I still think that Tufts attracts the more serious student, but Tulane has plenty of smart kids, too.

Emory is better than Tufts and Tulane. Emorys peers are Georgetown ,Notre Dame, WashU etc.

Emery and Georgetown or not comparable. Give me a break. Emery is it fine school but it’s not in the same league as Georgetown.

It's Emory with an O. And you're delusional. Emory is better at some things while Georgetown is better at others. Regardless Tulane and Tufts aren't the same level and frankly Tufts is better than Tulane.

I don't know much about Tufts so I'll stay out of the Tulane v Tufts discussion you are likely having with yourself. BUT Emory is not even comparable to Georgetown. No offense to Enory but Georgetown is just that good, that selective, and yes, better.

Np and I agree with you, Georgetown is superior to Emory (and to Tulane and to Tufts), and it makes me think the poster has a blind adoration for Emory to say otherwise. I will also add that I think that Tufts and Emory are on par and have an extremely similar student body, although again no convincing the President of the Emory Fan Club.

I don't, Emory has a lower acceptance rate and higher stats. There'd no adoration for Emory, they're ranked the same.

This lies the true problem, people think more white people=more prestige.

In 2022, Emory eliminated loans in their financial aid packages.

I don’t know. However, it is definitely a fabulous and fantastic school. Great reputation, excellent academics, and a great overall college experience..

This is interesting. Emory has the same test score profile as Georgetown and higher scores than Tulane but is so much more diverse...

Unless you care about foreign service, whose has Georgetown as their first choice? As far as Atlanta vs DC and New Orleans, Atlanta is one of the fastest cities in the country and DC and New Orleans are both have shrinking populations
