Have kids at Tulane and Emory. Virtually same school, though Emory plays games with its Oxford numbers. |
Both excellent schools. |
Np and I agree with you, Georgetown is superior to Emory (and to Tulane and to Tufts), and it makes me think the poster has a blind adoration for Emory to say otherwise. I will also add that I think that Tufts and Emory are on par and have an extremely similar student body, although again no convincing the President of the Emory Fan Club. |
We appreciate the blind adoration for Georgetown that you and the pp share. |
Tulane simply not prestigious |
This is all anecdotal (as is most of the info on this thread), but here is what I see as the difference between the students applying and being admitted to Tulane versus Emory (or Georgetown, or Tufts) - all of the applicants to these schools are awesome and well rounded and smart, but while the Tulane applicants have strong classes and GPAs, they did not kill themselves taking “the” highest level of every class (e.g., maybe they didn’t take AP language, or they took AP stat instead of AP calculus, or if they did take an AP in hard science, it was envt’l science) - versus the applicants to the other colleges are the kids who took basically the hardest level in everything. So basically the Tulane applicants are smarter because they enjoyed themselves in Hs more or at least experienced less academic stress ![]() |

I see the Georgetown boosters are out in full force. I’m a NP. In what way is Georgetown superior to Emory? Other than perhaps in international relations and the Catholic draw if you are Catholic, I don’t see it. Facilities and campus are much nicer and updated at Emory and the endowment is almost 4x more than Georgetown. I’d say they are at least comparable (as does USNEWS) and Emory clearly has the edge on pre-med/hard sciences. As for Tulane, I like PPs description above about it drawing the work “smart” students who take APs and do well, but don’t necessarily take the hardest APs across the board. Sounds like an appealing environment to me! |
Look it up. Leland Stanford Junior College. |
Probably explains why most of the Tulane grads I see around aren't that successful |
Tulane is excellent school but I agree, would not consider prestigious, where I would include Emory, Rice, Boston College, Georgetown, etc in that category. But who really cares?? If your kid goes to Tulane, like it and is successful then the sky’s the limit!! That is what matters. Not if some 50 year old thinks it reaches the level of prestigious. |
Lol! ![]() |
Tulane is prestigious. Obviously, Georgetown is on the level of its own so, yes I agree it’s not as prestigious is Georgetown. The other schools in Michigan are fine schools with not MORE prestigious than Tulane. |
Anecdotal = ridiculous |
The difference between Georgetown and Emory lies in demographics. Georgetown is still permeated with private/boarding school white kids from New England. Emory is much more diverse. Georgetown has approx 50% white students while Emory is around 35%. Of course, Tulane is woeful in this area - it is 70% white. |
