I think grad schools and global reputation matters. Emory is perceived as better globally. https://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/15/1108749.page |
It certainly is on the same level as some of the Ivy (like Cornell for ex) |
There is no Ivy League of the south, |
It's meant as a simile for discussion. |
I went to law school at Tulane and when people ask where I went, and I tell them, I get people saying "The Harvard of the south!" all the time.
I think that phrase is misleading and kind of silly, but I hear it a lot. |
Ivy is just a sports league. But if you want a comparison, the closest is probably Duke: better than lower ivies Dartmouth brown and Cornell, equal to middle ivies Penn and Columbia. Vanderbilt has been making serious waves in the last decade, probably on par with Cornell or Dartmouth now |
Yes. It is known as the "Harvard of the South". Undergrad, too. |
Most interesting is how you said that with a straight face. Regardless, Tulane may become more selective as Jewish students seek a safe environment (almost 50% of Tulane's student body identifies as Jewish). On the downside, the University of Houston just hired Tulane's super successful head football coach. Without college football is there anything else to do in New Orleans ? (Do you like how I wrote that with a straight face ?) |
i graduated from Tulane (newcomb college baby!) in the early 90s and it was called that back then. it is certainly a fun as hell place to go to school and has many top notch programs and a beautiful campus. i wouldn’t get in now but it was an amazing place to go to school. |
Duke, Vandy, Emory, Rice , Wash&Lee, Davidson, Wake Forest, Tulane
Southern ivys. |
Could you sneak southern LAC's like Suwanee, Rhoads, and Fuhrman into this group? |
If you could spell them, they might sneak into the second tier of LACs. |
and a very stupid one at that. just stop |
lol. That’s Duke. Even Vandy admits this. |
There's 8 ivys, if you didn't realize |
