The pitbulls have already been put down. These were legal pets that had been family pets for 8 years without incident and there was a parent present - I don't know how they could charge them with child endangerment.
"8 years without incident", but the children were just 5 months old and 2 years old so the prior 6 years "without incident" (that we know of) is not relevant. The pit bulls waited for their opportunity and took it.
Both parents are at fault. Hopefully they will wake up and spread the word.
It is relevant to charging them with a crime.
Regardless of any sanctions, these parents have to live with the guilt and the mother has to live with the trauma of watching her children mauled to death. They are also dealing with the grief and loss of both their children suddenly. You can't punish them in any way that would ever compare to how they will feel for the rest of their lives.
This line of thinking is so deeply disturbing and I find it enraging, especially as a former prosecutor. I am sick to death of hearing how parents already paid the ultimate price when they cooked their kid in the car or their kid shot a sibling or themselves with an unsecured gun or when they allow their kids to be eaten by their precious family pit bulls.
F F F F F the parents grief!!! That is NOT NOT NOT NOT NOT punishment enough!! Let them sit in prison for a few decades processing their terrible grief, and hopefully removing their negligent stupid genes from the gene pool and any other children they have will be protected from their criminally negligent parenting.
A child has the same right to life as you or me, they are not a possession of their parent! They deserve the same justice you would want for yourself if you were mauled by your idiot neighbor’s dog. Tell me, if YOUR child was ripped apart by the idiot neighbor’s pit bull, would their grief and sorrow be enough to fulfill your desire for justice?
Prosecutors who don’t prosecute parents whose negligence results in the death of their children are nothing but COWARDS. Period!
