From this document- see #39:

39. If an individual travels to any place other than Maryland or Virginia and receives a
negative COVID-19 test upon their return to the District, can they return to school?
[UPDATED]

Per DC Health’s Guidance for Travel, unvaccinated or partially vaccinated individuals who have traveled
domestically to any place other than Maryland or Virginia must either (1) not attend school for 10 days
after returning, or (2) not attend school until tested for COVID-19 three to five days after returning AND
receive a negative COVID-19 viral test.

Unvaccinated or partially vaccinated individuals who have traveled internationally must either (1) not
attend school for 10 days after returning, or (2) not attend school for seven days after returning, get
tested for COVID-19 three to five days after returning, AND receive a negative COVID-19 viral test. Even
if the test is negative, the individual must still not attend school for seven days.

osse can bite me. my elderly MIL needs regular visits in NYC and we will not be keeping my kid out of school for a single hour.

Ah yes, the entire school system exist to serve your individual family needs. Your MIL above all else. Please. I really hope all of you lying parents reveal yourselves so I know who to stay away from. The lack of values in this group is shocking. I guess your kids do need to be in school so they can learn from other people than you.

This is not about values. It is about theater.

And we see you as a person who blindly follows rules, whether or not they are counterproductive or bad rules. History shows us that blind, unthinking rule followers don't always have the right of it.

What's the plan for schooling for these kids that have to stay out three or seven days?

my VALUES are that I need to take care of my family - my child (who can't miss a week of school) and my elderly MIL (who needs regular weekend visits).

So DCPS is sending unvaccinated kids back to school cafeterias (rather than doing outdoor lunch or chohorted lunch), but they're not letting us drive to see vaccinated relatives 2 states away? Honestly I would comply with the quarantine rules if I felt like they were part of a more cohesive plan that was actually designed to prevent the spread of covid. But they are not.

Also, as a previous poster mentioned, if DCPS is not providing an educational alternative to students who should be quarantining under their rules, then they are providing a very strong disincentive to compliance. It makes no sense.

I agree that it's all a mess and provides no incentive to follow the rules. There's no consistency in actually keeping kids or adults in school buildings safe. The travel guidance is one example.

I don't believe there is one.

It occurs to me that unvaccinated teachers/staff would be in the same boat. Meaning they couldn't travel out of state on weekends, or over Thanksgiving, either. I wonder how that will play into school disruptions. Will some classes just have to move remove for a week because an unvaccinated teacher went on a trip for the weekend?

"do remote" not "move remove"

How hard is it to just...not travel? I truly don't understand. I don't want to travel and risk my unvaccinated kids coming into contact with more people. All of you so excited about flying to Italy, Florida, seeing MIL in NYC - don't you understand there is risk to your kids? I am worried about my kids, why aren't you worried about yours?

Lord. It's like you haven't read any of this thread at all.

It's been almost two years. Everything is open. There is no increased risk, since everything is open, and it's been going on too long to not see our elderly relatives.

My grandfather just turned 100. I want my kids to see him again because he could die at any moment, basically. His whole facility is vaccinated, and all visits occur masked and outdoors. However, he does not live in MD or VA, so somehow that is "unsafe," while I could take my kids to Six Flags or go to an arcade on the Eastern Shore, and somehow this is "safe."

It's lunacy.

No, I am not worried about getting in my car to drive to NYC and visit my vaccinated MIL with my DS. I don’t understand why you think I should be.
