DCPS Double Down on Travel Policy

I hope they would have to take leave for the quarantine. That seems like a really serious issue. I'm sure teachers would hate to be told "well, just don't travel," like we are being told.

I hope they are forced to take unpaid leave. I mean come on. This is getting absurd.

All of you so excited about flying to Italy, Florida, seeing MIL in NYC - don't you understand there is risk to your kids? I am worried about my kids, why aren't you worried about yours?

My grandfather just turned 100. I want my kids to see him again because he could die at any moment, basically. His whole facility is vaccinated, and all visits occur masked and outdoors. However, he does not live in MD or VA, so somehow that is "unsafe," while I could take my kids to Six Flags or go to an arcade on the Eastern Shore, and somehow this is "safe."

It's lunacy.

It IS lunacy. I would suggest that no one is allowed to visit MD or VA either because I don't want my kids getting COVID from a bunch of kids who just went to Six Flags. Maybe people can only leave for employment reasons?

Sounds to me like they are correctly assuming that domestic travel is the period of time that people in this area are taking risks.

Neat. That totally sounds enforceable.

You have a narrow notion of employment, I think. Some people's employment brings them into contact with 100s per day. And they aren't travelling. Not sure how that's more safe than driving to visit vaccinated Gramma in DE.

And idiotic since some of us live near the border. We can't even go to the hospital without driving through Maryland.

Half of my street is MD and half is in DC, so I could literally not leave my house.

From this document- see #39:

39. If an individual travels to any place other than Maryland or Virginia and receives a
negative COVID-19 test upon their return to the District, can they return to school?
[UPDATED]

Per DC Health’s Guidance for Travel, unvaccinated or partially vaccinated individuals who have traveled
domestically to any place other than Maryland or Virginia must either (1) not attend school for 10 days
after returning, or (2) not attend school until tested for COVID-19 three to five days after returning AND
receive a negative COVID-19 viral test.

Unvaccinated or partially vaccinated individuals who have traveled internationally must either (1) not
attend school for 10 days after returning, or (2) not attend school for seven days after returning, get
tested for COVID-19 three to five days after returning, AND receive a negative COVID-19 viral test. Even
if the test is negative, the individual must still not attend school for seven days.

osse can bite me. my elderly MIL needs regular visits in NYC and we will not be keeping my kid out of school for a single hour.

Ah yes, the entire school system exist to serve your individual family needs. Your MIL above all else. Please. I really hope all of you lying parents reveal yourselves so I know who to stay away from. The lack of values in this group is shocking. I guess your kids do need to be in school so they can learn from other people than you.

Talk about heartless and cruel. This person has a parent that needs assistance. Lots of others areas in the country have figured out all the school situation without imposing draconian rules on kids and families. Get a grip. You are the problem here.

DC being the kind of place it is, lots of us have family in other statues. How hard is that to understand? And what about those of us in professions where work travel is going to resume later this year? It's a bad rule, and should be withdrawn.

+1

Some people really got their values screwed up during this pandemic and aren’t even aware of it. Mindlessly following nonsensical rules at all costs is not evidence of intact morals. I’d be glad for the PP to avoid us because I’d rather stay away from the Stasi types.
