Anyone watching Mare of Easttown?

Have you ever seen a college aged young man portrayed as anything less than a creep for having sex with a high school aged girl?

Well clearly the daughter is a senior. I don't think a HS senior and a college student is considered a big deal.

Example: Bring it on. Boyfriend is a jerk, but not considered inappropriate.

She's 18 and about to head off for college. DJ is likely only a year or two older.

More men are creeps so maybe that's why you have that perception.

I think John is the dad. Did they say how Erin died in a press conference? Dylan said she was shot in the face. Wonder if that was public.

John says to Lori "Billy has confessed to killing Erin and he is Dj's dad"

So.. No. Don't think your theory holds, sadly.

What? I didn’t see that scene.

Did this happen?

But would a paternity test differentiate between 2 brothers?

I was wondering the same.

In the scene where John confronts Billy he is pushing (drunk) Billy to confess to him, and even supplies the words he needs to hear. When John tells Billy that their father saw Billy in bloody clothes the night of the murder, John says “what am I going to do?” When he talks to his wife about Billy’s confession he begs her not to tell Mare for the good of their family. He doesn’t say anything about the baby or who the father is.

All of this makes me think that John is taking advantage of the fact that Billy is a drunk to manipulate him (maybe even frame him for the murder), and that John is the father. I think Billy was too drunk to remember what happened that night.

Maybe this week's episode will clarify things-- I love this show but the brothers everyone is referring to are unclear to me, so I must not be paying enough attention (sleepy when watching)

I think this is exactly it.

I thought Lori said this to Mare, but we didn't actually see John say this to Lori.

Plus the baby’s name is DJ...d for Dylan maybe J for John?

DNA testing would definitely tell which of the men was the father and which was close relation - ie. uncle etc

Richard’s character/storyline seems like a random addition to the show at this point. Just there to provide another red herring? Or maybe Mare will finally warm to him in the final episode to show that she “got her sh!t together.”

Saw a theory elsewhere that Ryan is the dad and John killed Erin to protect him (they have a secret after all and it’s not an affair). Billy helped dispose of the body and was bothered at the get together when Lori and John talked about adopting DJ.

I think the show takes place in 2019 so could be true or John is dad and Ryan killed Erin when he found out. And then John and Billy helped dispose of body.

I did wonder if the gun was Mare’s dad’s especially when the therapist asked if anyone had been up in the attic since her son died. She wouldn’t know if it’s missing.

John and Billy are cousins once removed to Erin; cousins to her father. I’d love to see what DNA results show if one of them is the father. One is father and cousin, one cousin and uncle… close relation x2 or 3.

Should be an interesting final episode. I agree that Ryan is involved, even if he just knows some of what happened.

I’d like to find out what Lori knows, because the second scene where she and John are talking about Billy’s “confession” starts partway through a conversation. What did John tell her before the scene starts? There’s a lot of talk of protecting the family. It could be that they’re protecting Ryan instead of John but still making Billy the scapegoat.
