I’d like to find out what Lori knows, because the second scene where she and John are talking about Billy’s “confession” starts partway through a conversation. What did John tell her before the scene starts? There’s a lot of talk of protecting the family. It could be that they’re protecting Ryan instead of John but still making Billy the scapegoat.

John is DJ's father. I think the Lori &John's son witnessed violence night of Erin's murder with his father (or maybe even mother) and Erin. John is setting up Billy.

Erin told Mare's son and John killed him to silence him. Maybe son threatened John, went to get gun, John (maybe with Billy) went after him. Killed him and took gun.

Burning journals may be to cover up others involved in online prostitution. DJ being gay for pay or selling underage porn.
