It's done. McConnell will put Trump's nominee up before the election, all Rs (with the possible exception of Romney) will vote as ordered by McConnell; all Ds will vote against except for Manchin, who will obey McConnell. Another rad-right SCt justice will be on the court before election day. Trump will lose the election but it will be narrow, the case will reach the SCt and the SCt will find and order that Trump actually won, that Dem ballots cannot for some reason be counted, and that the election results are absolutely dispositive and cannot be further litigated.

America ended tonight. The Bill of Rights died. It is because of the Redneck garbage in the Redneck states.

This is poor quality, even for back of the napkin fiction. No imagination, no creativity, standard copy/paste of old talking points. I give it a D+

So do Democrats want the nomination to proceed now or not? If they want to delay, this will significantly improve Trump's chances for winning.

But that’s what’s going to happen. And the Dems won’t pack the Court if they win the Presidency and the Senate (and that’s a big if), because then the Republicans would just do the same down the road. This is all very nasty and sad, but it’s what will happen. End of debate. End of story.

Glad to see someone has already reached the Acceptance phase of Grief.

I don’t know about that. Susan Collins and lisa murkowski said they wouldn’t support a vote. Even Lindsey Graham might be threatened by actually having to face voters this year.

What would they do after November 3?

Collins has said that she would not vote in lame duck session. Murkowski has not said. However, both Grassley and Romney have also said, like Collins, that the would not vote in 2020 for a SC nomination.

However, after the election, as long as Martha McSally is not certified the winner, then her appointment expires on November 30. That gives McConnell a 3.5 week window that includes Thanksgiving weekend (from Nov 4-30) to hold Senate judicial hearings, questions from Democrats, a vote, then hold a full Senate hearing, questions from Democrats, and a vote. And that assumes that AZ does not certify Mark Kelly as a winner before 11/30 AND that he can convince Murkowski to agree to push a rushed vote through a lame duck Senate AND that he does not get any other defections over that time.

Honestly, while it is possible, it's going to be an uphill battle for the next 2.5 months for McConnell to get this done.

Can we please give up this fantasy that Republicans are capable of doing the right thing? These are the same people who voted for an impeachment trial with no witnesses. Just, please get with the program, ok?

Why would this increase Trump’s chances of winning? Republicans already have a majority in the SC. SCOTUS already betrayed the far right with the LGBT rulings earlier this year, and come on, no one who was strongly anti-abortion was going to sit this out or vote Biden. Those people are nuts. Their only chance to create some “enthusiasm” I guess, is to nominate someone very very anti-abortion and let’s face it, every week this year has been like a year. This news will get overshadowed by 9pm tomorrow night.

You are too kind. This an F.

What is even more hilarious is the fact that every extreme liberal on this Board has now found the Constitution, like some sort of inmate finds God after murdering 10 people. After decades of inventing things not found anywhere in the Constitution, and getting upset when the document is actually referenced, all of a sudden everything is unconstitutional, and the Bill of Rights has been violated every way since Sunday.

What is actually going to happen is that the complete MELTDOWN that we are already seeing over this is going to push the election further into the Orange Man's favor. We are going to see a female nominee who is going to do battle with Kamala Harris during some hearings. That nominee is going to get through, and the Orange Man is going to win the election. At that point, the entire DCUM universe is going to implode.

2020 has been quite the ride. That much is for sure. Talk about Polls and LOLs.

There is a big difference between dissenting opinion and being a troll. But, you probably don't understand that, since you come here for affirmation. Sear my comments into your brain and remember them 3 months from now. It might cause you some angst.

I really admire her and think she did a lot of amazing things, but she let her ego get in the way. Should have stepped down earlier when she had the chance to make sure another dem could take her place. Rest in peace, and I feel very sad for everyone who knew and loved her.

Why would it? Who exactly is on the fence?

Sorry conservatives aren't credible when jammering on about the Constitution after they’ve sat back for 4 years and grinned as Trump has violated one principle after another.

Trump nominates a female conservative justice.

Trump loses the election. Democrats take the Senate with a very small majority.

The GOP Senate votes to throw out the filibuster rule and confirms the nominee after the election in a lameduck session.

The Democratic Congress debates expanding the Supreme Court in 2021 - progressives and moderates square off. Chances of success are currently less than 50%.

Security is tightened even further around the current justices.

Political unrest continues.

Political mayhem breaks out if somehow Democrats successfully expand the Court.

Have we all forgotten actual Supreme Court decisions? It’s a terrible branch of government. The ‘neutral’ Decisions that were made over the years have caused more harm than good.

I’m sad that someone died- but to act like age is the death of democracy means you’ve been checked out for too long. Democracy died years ago
