Explain. Hogan is the second most popular governor in the entire nation, with an approval rating of 68%. |
It requires no explanation beyond simply realizing that a large block of voters in the state of Maryland who are traditionally republican aren't going to vote for Hogan again because he's done nothing for them. I'm speaking of gun owners, who are frustrated at best and outraged at worst with Hogan, for not using executive authority to change the way that concealed carry permits are issued by the state. And Hogan can't afford to not have their support in a state with such a lopsided electorate. But by ignoring them, he's pretty much alienated what should've been a rock solid group of supporters. Many will not vote for Hogan again, and for Hogan, who can't afford to lose any votes at all, it will guarantee that the Democrat candidate will win. You haven't heard about this because news outlets are completely unaware of the issue. They don't even know that Hogan has lost such a core of his supporters. But reporters don't normally talk to gun rights activists, or keep up with those issues, so this is solidly in their blind spot. But Hogan is done. |
Well, those voters certainly aren't going to vote for any of the Dems. Maybe turnout could be an issue for him among more conservative Republicans. But I think that will be more than offset by voters like me who generally lean a little left, but are happy with his performance, wary of the (likely) hard-left views of the D nominee, and just generally think it is good to have some bipartisanship in the state. |
| Nope, they won't vote for Baker or Mandalino or any other dem, but they won't vote for Hogan. And there's enough of them to take away enough votes to pretty much guarantee that the democrat -ANY democrat- is going to eek out a win in what was supposedly a sure-thing for Hogan. |
| I am most likely going to vote for Hogan. It will be the first time I’ve ever voted for a republican. |
|
I am a Hogan supporter, but realistically the main reason that he won was that the Democratic party and Democrats in MD picked a flawed opponent, former Lt Governor Anthony Brown. Brown served two terms as Lt Governor to Martin O'Malley and the hope was that he could ride on O'Malley's coattails to the governor's mansion. The problem is that many of the projects and programs that Brown managed during his tenure were flawed or downright failures including his biggest failure, the launch of the Health Care exchange. That debacle cost the tax payers millions of dollars in waste plus much more in personal out-of-pocket expenses when the health care exchange failed to register them correctly for health insurance.
While most the Democratic base voted for him, many of the independents and moderates in the state voted for Hogan. Hogan does enjoy pretty good ratings and support, but if there is a qualified and competent Democratic candidate, I'm not sure those critical groups will still support him. It's possible, especially since the most qualified and competent Democrat is Rushern Baker who is weighed down by the fact that many in the state would not support a politician from PG County. So far, Hogan is more likely to be reelected because the Democrats cannot find a good candidate to run. If they had a solid candidate, that candidate would likely win. |
Why? I voted for him because he was against the Purple Line and then he funded the boondoggle. Not voting for him again. Plus he is not giving MoCo its fair share of education funding. |
It's Magdaleno, just FYI. |
Every Democrat in my family will be voting for Hogan. None of the Democratic candidates running for governor appeal to me. Also, Democrats in MD are really irking my nerves with their policies. I'm so pissed at them that I may vote for only Republicans for the first time in my life. I live in Howard County and I despise some of the Democrats here especially the ones on the school board. My husband and I feel like we are force to vote for Republicans to prevent Democrats from doing damage at the state and local levels. However, we keep out thoughts to ourselves. HOGAN 2018! |
Actually Madaleno! |
Doesn't matter, just call him "governor elect" , because he's going to crush fatboy |
Only in Montgomery County. He's not likely to win another county in the state. He doesn't really stand a chance. The Democrats need to find a stronger candidate and fast. Of the current group of candidates, Rushern Baker the best chance and even he is not likelly to win the election. But he will be able to win a few counties just not enough (but more than Mada-whateverhisnameis). |
|
So in 2018 homophobia is alive and well among people who call themselves "democrats"?
Good to know. |
| I've never voted for a Republican and right now I'd vote for him over the democratic front-runner. |
Why wouldn't you support the democrat nominee? This makes no sense to me. If you're a republican, fine, vote for Hogan. But why cross party lines? I don't get this. |
