No, there will be no re-election. It was a fluke and won’t happen again.
Explain. Hogan is the second most popular governor in the entire nation, with an approval rating of 68%.
It requires no explanation beyond simply realizing that a large block of voters in the state of Maryland who are traditionally republican aren't going to vote for Hogan again because he's done nothing for them. I'm speaking of gun owners, who are frustrated at best and outraged at worst with Hogan, for not using executive authority to change the way that concealed carry permits are issued by the state. And Hogan can't afford to not have their support in a state with such a lopsided electorate. But by ignoring them, he's pretty much alienated what should've been a rock solid group of supporters. Many will not vote for Hogan again, and for Hogan, who can't afford to lose any votes at all, it will guarantee that the Democrat candidate will win. You haven't heard about this because news outlets are completely unaware of the issue. They don't even know that Hogan has lost such a core of his supporters. But reporters don't normally talk to gun rights activists, or keep up with those issues, so this is solidly in their blind spot. But Hogan is done.
