lots of bad info above re STA.

there is a dress code, but you can also wear a sweater (insetad of a blazer). You have to wear a button shirt and a tie, or you can wear a turtleneck too.

Then, about the sport they "make" them play, sometimes it is crab soccer, sometimes basketball, sometimes crab football...it is NOT about who is a great athlete. it is meant to be fun for the boys as these playdates can be stressful when your parents threaten you to behave or else (!) but also to see how a boy does in a different setting, ie is he a good team mate.

my son's class is filled with kids who are into art, science, cooking, music and have not an athletic bone in their body. and they are flourishing.

I am sorry to the PP who did not get accepted, it is a tough school to get into, and you are aprobably right about the fit, but just not about the fact that the it was because your son did not perform well at crab football. I hope you find the place that fits your son, and perhaps you will take another look at STA in 7th.

Lovely post. On the other hand, my son is in a class full of guys who play a different team sport year round in clubs outside of school. Only 2/3 boys in his class are into art, music, etc. Yes, there are some boys there who are not into sports. By 6th grade, the boys are required to play a team sport each season. The boys do get used to the dress code. Rigorous academics. Perfect fit for DS.

To the poster above, when did you hear from Lowell? Was it a phone call or letter? Congrats too

So go to GDS and be happy you don't have to go through this for high school. And if Beauvoir comes through then decide between the 2. Visit NCS or STA for 7-8 and high school to compare with GDS since you are signing on to be a potential lifer.

Yes waiting on Lowell. I'm tempted to stay home until 3pm when mail comes but it's so not fair to my DC. So, I'm leaving the house and will hopefully come home to some good news from Lowell. Good luck everyone!

good news for many i hope, everyone has GREAT kids, and which school is not the only determining
factor on how they will turn out, so many other factors , everyone should keep this in mind today.

Oh, I'm sorry. This makes me a bit sad (not your HHI, but your poor little guy. I think my little guy will be yours in 2 yrs!) Which school?

The fact that STA makes them play a sport during the "interview," was the first sign that STA would not be a good fit for my DS. The fact that all STA boys must wear blazers to school was the second sign. The third sign - the very thin envelope that arrived today. As another poster put it, should have just spent the application/testing fees on a nice brunch somewhere nice.

Holy Crap. It sounds atrocious.

They play a simple game of crab football during the interview. I suppose if you have a boy who starts crying and covering his head terrified of getting hit by the ball, his app would go into the circular file. Big deal, there's a dress code. OOOOh sooooo atrocious! Suck a egg.

Suck an egg? How old are you?!?!?! I'm guessing 50.

And it's not very nice to make fun of children.

Not near 50 dearie. Didn't make fun of your son, but if that's how he experienced that little game, well that's just the way it is.

I'm not the person whose child didn't get in, but I am shocked by your response to that person.

does anyone know how many people on the w/l get in?

The point of a wait list is because not even the school knows how many will get in. They take students to fill the class, plus perhaps a few extras based on historic "yields" (i.e., percent accepted who enroll). Then they take off the waitlist. Some years the number is zero. Some years the number is larger. But not even Beauvoir knows, other than perhaps how far down the waitlist you actually are. And even that is inexact, because it depends on who doesn't come--e.g., if it's a girl slot, then they'll fill it with a girl even if there are boys 20 spaces higher.

I agree. How obnoxious! Obnoxious person, do you realize how you sound? Are you like this in person? If I were you, I'd do some serious soul-searching about why I feel it necessary to ridicule others.
