The point is it’s because of Trump due to the merger. Colbert is the only program on the entire network losing money? I highly doubt that. |
Trump obviously forced the network to do this in order to proceed with the merger, but it is also apparent that network tv is struggling and the late night network shows like this are no longer profitable.
They need a new model at a scaled back cost. They probably don’t need a band (or maybe just a cheaper, smaller band). They probably need to shift the celebrity costs to the celebrity (or film/album/project they are promoting). And the host can’t be paid as much. Otherwise they need to go to a podcast like platform—where some celeb hosts are making tons of money without the big production costs. Personally, I hope he brings back his Colbert Report persona—perhaps on the Daily Show at first—to skewer this administration that is destroying our democracy and the rule of law. |
They’re not replacing him or the show. |
He left the Colbert Report because he was tired of doing that character |
Sure, Chad. |
Yes, we know. But times have changed. And now he has a personal reason to want a different platform to fight back. Spite motivates people. |
So you are saying CBS will have an hour of blank air time during Colbert's old time slot? Mmk |
Speaking of the Colbert Report, someone posted this clip from the finale and it’s amazing how many people of different stripes that show brought together to wish him well. Six months before the escalator ride. |
The local news can just be followed by random syndicated shows. CSI: Up Drumpf' s Rump or whatever |
That character was really funny and Colbert seems to have lost the ability to be funny, unfortunately. |
It was funny because he was perfectly satirizing a smug, self-satisfied but unquestioning partisan political blowhard. Then, in his Late Show role, he actually BECAME that character. That’s why he was no longer funny, and that’s why Americans abandoned the show |
More people posting here than people under age 75 who watched his boring graft pit show. $100 million a year budget for a truly painfully unfunny 4 hours a week? 200 overpaid hacks stealing paychecks. |
Sorry you can’t recognize a real talent. I won’t even bother asking who you find funny. |
It doesn't really matter. None of those night shows perform well. None of them. He could be hilarious and we're still just going to watch Netflix. The vast majority of people under 60 years old are on streamers and you can always tell how old someone is if they start complaining about Fox News. Like okay, but only retirees are watching it so settle down. |
