Nice try! |
They didn't "cancel" the show this week. He will get to finish his contract. They simply are not renewing the contract |
You're the kind of person I just smile and nod at. Like most posters on DCUM. Better to just pretend you're right and not engage. Have a great night! |
So why announce it now? |
DP. Please post your credible sources stating that this show was profitable for the network. We won't hold our breath. |
I mean you are nasty but these are receipts, I will give you that. As I noted earlier, I have been to the show (because I knew someone who worked for it/him) and that set and production was way over the top. I can easily believe that it cost too much AND that he was too mouthy re: the current admin. I also believe the former would not have mattered if not for the latter. |
I don’t think people understand how bad the ratings of the show are. Letterman left averaging 800,000 viewers 18-49. Colbert has 200,000. The economics of the show don’t work if you have 1/4th the viewers but the same production costs.
A few of you have mentioned blue bloods - that’s a great comparison. It was cancelled even though it was a Top 10 show because advertisers aren’t trying to get in front of Blue Bloods (average viewer 73) or Colbert (average viewer 68). All of these spirited comments are from partisan phonies in their 40s and 50s who never actually watched this irrelevant show. |
This is the biggest question, closely followed by, why not renegotiate everyone’s contract to cut costs considering the declining viewership in the current media landscape? |
Colbert announced it. Maybe he's in on the plot to suppress himself? |
No, he was told by CBS of their decision. Why did they tell him now? |
+1 |
When a business unit is losing $40M per year, “but why NOW???” is not the appropriate question. |
To give him time to make other plans. To give themselves time to create and advertise a new show to replace him. Duh. |
They're just going to have reruns of NCIS or whatever. No new show. |
You didn’t address the very obvious point. CBS needs this merger to go through. The longer the merger drags on, the network’s value decreases. Trump can’t handle any criticism. And Colbert has clearly been a master of getting under his skin. Trump knows CBS needs this merger so you think a coincidence that this is being canceled now? 🙄 Very sad that you clearly think the president should be able to muzzle someone because he can’t take the heat. |
