I recently went to an indie bookstore to buy the latest JK Rowling (writing as Robert Galbraith) book and was snootily told "we don't agree with her and do not carry her books." I said nothing but walked out of the store never to return. This is a woman-owned business and I was one of its first customers and bought hundreds of books from them. During the pandemic, I made cash donations so that they could pay their rent. I felt sick rather than angry that a woman I admired was so narrow minded.

Thank you for sharing and proving my point. This is one (of many) reasons Harris lost. The DNC has tied itself to this extremist cancel culture mindset. Then they turn around and blame this on "low info voters" and continue to deny deny deny. This whole post is way off the mark. Democrats lost the election for "multiple reasons" -- that being said, one of the reasons is this:

A culmination of cancel culture, extremist DEI and woke culture, pronoun nonsense, social constructs not based on science.

I am disgusted by all the cancel culture, especially in regards to JK Rowling and I actually am a bigger fan of hers simply because she continues to stand her ground. Good for her! Recent Article below - I'm so proud of her.

They lost the election because people don't like this - and while too scared to voice it for fear of career damage and society cancelling - they were not scared to vote [or not vote or vote third party] accordingly and that's a big reason Trump won.

I recently went to an indie bookstore to buy the latest JK Rowling (writing as Robert Galbraith) book and was snootily told "we don't agree with her and do not carry her books." I said nothing but walked out of the store never to return. This is a woman-owned business and I was one of its first customers and bought hundreds of books from them. During the pandemic, I made cash donations so that they could pay their rent. I felt sick rather than angry that a woman I admired was so narrow minded.

Thank you for sharing and proving my point. This is one (of many) reasons Harris lost. The DNC has tied itself to this extremist cancel culture mindset. Then they turn around and blame this on "low info voters" and continue to deny deny deny. I regret voting for Harris because I am now seeing just how obtuse and "low info" the Democratic party truly is.

Because the cancel culture has gone too far. I love that JK Rowling continues to stand her ground and say "f* off"...but she has the funds to be able to do so. Many do not and live in fear of being fired or cancelled for simply having an opinion or standing up for their rights.

Sure, the bookstore owner has the right not to carry an author's books, but it's why she chooses to do so. Because the bookstore owner was brainwashed into thinking that just because someone disagrees on allowing minors to use blockers she's automatically labeled anti-trans. That is why it is wrong.

The DNC and Kamala didn’t cancel JK Rowling. You need to separate what the executive branch controls from changing culture. Kicking us all back to the 30s over it was dumb.

You continue to be obtuse. The DNC base and its policies do support the whole cancel culture/gender identity wars.

Republicans are all about cancel culture and identity wars.

They have led the charge on cancel culture for decades, with the Dixie Chicks all the way back in 2003, they canceled Colin Kaepernick, they canceled Nike, they canceled Ellen Degeneres, they canceled Kathy Griffin, they canceled Samantha Bee, they canceled Bud Light, they canceled Starbucks, they canceled Gillette and on and on and on - there are hundreds of things the right wing canceled.

They say marriage can only be a man and a woman. They say we are a Christian nation. They say you can't say "Happy Holidays." And so on. That's all right wing identity war. Immigration policy is entirely driven by identity politics. Gun culture is identity politics.

Saying this is a Dem thing is completely ignorant of your own side.

DP. Those things are reactionary, aka conservative. Enforcing cultural norms is what traditional conservativism is supposed to be about. And pushing cultural norms is what liberalism is supposed to be about. Liberals, the tolerant left, tolerant of everything but intolerance aka cultural norms, has been pushing and pushing for a long uninterrupted time. Our cultural norms have moved very far.

Maybe you have pushed far enough and you can rest for a while. Maybe our cultural norms have been pushed too much and need to return a little bit.
