lol sure. College soccer is not that competitive. |
Nah, nah, nah. Not men’s side. Kid’s D1 school has 5 five years and 6 Seniors. Only two true Freshmen. They pick up older players in the transfer portal from other competitive schools. The two Freshmen don’t see a minute of playing time. They prefer an older roster. You’ll sss how many kids on these rosters say “2 years at Dartmouth transferred to UVA”, etc |
| ^^ it’s getting worse and worse for recruits out of HS. |
My (female) cousin plays at Penn State. Because of Covid and a medical redshirt year, she is now in her 6th year in Happy Valley. Her teammates call her Grandma! Every year they pick up important players through the portal, so that no one's playing time seems to be guaranteed from year to year. They typically do have large freshman classes (8-9 players), but many don't play much (or at all) and end up transferring. |
| How can a team like VT have 35 women, with 11 leaving, but 11 2025s... and not start to axe some incoming plus who are on team now? Crazy... I heard JMU is worse! I would want to cut those who underperformed on the team now rather than the prospect of quality incoming players, but who knows. When do 2025s starts to discuss new money options with coaches is more important. |
I think schools like VT will have the conversations in November (after the season completes). When they've fully evaluated their existing players, evaluated injuries, and have an understanding of who's leaving via the portal. Then they'll make their cuts (to existing players and/or 2025 recruits) to get down to the 28 number. |
Cutting only works if the kid wants to play or cares about being on the team. ACC scholarships are guaranteed for 4 years. They can remove them from the roster, but they're still counting against the cap |
Men's D1 rosters typically have 23-year olds on them. |
With the new scholarship limits, this doesn't matter as much to the big (football) schools. |
They can relinquish their scholarship l, so if they transfer, it will go back. If student doesn't and stays at the school, it will count. With 28 scholarships that can be portioned out, this won't matter much. Annoying, but players on team won't see any difference. |
All true and what every school should have done. But please realize that there is no settlement at the moment as the judge did not approve. There is no deal that could cap things at 28. We will find out in the next couple of weeks if the NCAA and the plaintiffs come up with a new deal that the judge is ok with. To be clear, the 28 is not the issue. It is other issues. If there is a deal it will likely keep the 28. If there is no deal that can get approved by the judge then the case is set for trial and the 28 will not apply in all likelihood to the 2025 season. The 28 may never even get into the final order by the judge even after trial. |

Not directly soccer related, but now programs want to ask fans to foot the bill for revenue sharing?

| We’re in it for the admissions letter, not a career in soccer. |
I think this thread still applies, less spots, less chances. |
