Not when the roster sizes on some teams are 35. 2025s are being decommitted. |
| This will be a HUGE shift. With D1 roster size limits and the transfer portal, it will be even more competitive to get recruited out of high school. |
| Just remember that even though schools have the ability to award 28 scholarships, they don't have to and a lot of schools won't be able to. |
UMMMM...opposite how? Explain. |
Then it becomes nothing more than an intramural club sport. Yes, they don't have to award 28, but it wouldn't make sense either for a school that cannot afford to offer scholarships to maintain their program which is another concern. |
This makes no sense. No school offered full rides to entire roster before these changes. |
| It's way too soon to know all the affects of these changes. You can't apply the new rules at the current conditions to draw your conclusions because the total pie that is college sports will be getting a whole lot bigger. NCAA and the P4 conferences agreed to make these changes, as a trade off, because they will be get more money coming in. In some cases a lot more money. It will take time for the dust to settle and there will be individuals and schools with major impacts. But the net of it all will probably be better in general for college sports because the money is coming and we all know what drives things. |
A scholarship cost the school nothing. The true cost is no where near what is listed. |
|
'Power 5 Football schools will now be required to provide direct payments to their athletes, to the tune of up to 22% of the average P5 revenue income."
That sounds like an illegal salary cap. The NFL, NBA, and NHL can do it because the cap is collectively bargained. MLS is a single entity. College athletes are not part if a union and there is no single entity in college sports. I'm sure the lawyers are getting ready to sue in a different circuit |
|
I am confused, does this now mean P5 schools with big 2025 recruitment classes will have to cut existing players or reduce their 2025 recruiting class?
That sounds horrible if you are in a 10-12 person college recruiting class. Before I thought they would just spread out their scholarship money??? So I assumed if they could publish 28 full scholarships now they could easily do 35 partial scholarships..but I think this means they no longer have the luxury to carry 35 players??? I don't see what the point is in limiting roster size, I love that the kids may get bigger scholarships but it suck for the kids in the program that lose out. |
| Kids better start calling their coaches to make sure they are still on a roster. |

Lacrosse and Field Hockey may be great second sport options in the DMV with these new roster limits/scholarship opportunities. |
A Big10 team dropped 3 2025 recruits apparently. |
