"Empathy: It's so important to think about how other people feel, because different people have different feelings."

Sounds like KKK-style propaganda to me!

Why not teach kids about people being “unapologetically Asian/Jewish/etc.”?

If you seriously taught kindergarteners about homosexuality and transgender issues then I really hope you get fired. And that's not even considering the political indoctrination which should also be a fireable offense.

I cannot believe what this country has come to that this is happening in our public schools.

WTAF is WRONG with you? Of course you teach children to be accepting of everyone. That includes homosexuals and transgender people. You don't fire teachers for teaching that. The very fact that you would suggest such a thing announces that you are clearly a defective person of bad character who gets absolutely NO say in what children are taught. Sit down. And shut up. Your opinions are not valid and you are not to share them anymore.

New poster. What is WRONG with you? Of course I teach my kids to be accepting of everyone. That doesn't mean I want my kids teacher telling my Kindergartener what it means to be transgender and non-binary. Those our conversations between me and my child. My child is 5 and does not need to know that yet and does not have the maturity to even understand what that means. The last I checked, parents get to decide when and how to teach their kids about these issues. Where do schools get off thinking this is appropriate in Kindergarten? My parents had to sign a permission slip for me to learn about sex ed and puberty in 5th and 6th grade but now it is okay for teachers to discuss homosexuality and gender identity in Kindergarten without the permission of the parents?????????????

For the record, I have close family members that are gay and I fully support the rights of LGBTQ. But as a parent, I get to decide how and when to have these discussions.

There is a big difference between Black lives matter and Black Lives Matter. BLM is a political movement with a pretty radical agenda. Many advocate for violence to effectuate change. I support the ideal of Black lives matter but want nothing to do with the political movement.

Good thing no one is teaching them about heterosexuality and being cisgender!

Ffs there are picture books about all this. It's not that serious.

If it is the latter, the teacher and any administrators who are responsible need to be fired immediately.

Along with this racist: https://twitter.com/marya_hay/status/1230546821346471939?s=20 It's insane to think that MPCS pays this woman to spread this kind of hate.

It’s ironic that they can’t even spell “privilege” right, in their BS definition of some cockamamie concept of “whiteness.”

Why not? Sounds good. Why shouldn't people be unapologetically [whatever]-- when [whatever] has been marginalized and made to apologize? What's your point? No one said anyone had to be ~*indoctrinated*~ with all of this ~awful propoganda~. They just learned about the guiding principles for a social movement. In the 1960s, you would have been among the majority of Americans polled that thought the CRM was asking for too much, too fast. You're on the wrong side of history. *shrug*

I mostly was wondering if this was school specific to my kid’s MS, and it appears that is the case.

I appreciate all the responses, on both sides. It will actually help me formulate a more concise argument when I raise this with admin as to why I find it problematic that they spent an hour on this in HERD/Advisory today.

FWIW, I am not White. I am Latina. (Not Latinx, because that is not even a real word in Spanish).

Good news you can be on Latina time and not be considered lazy.

I have zero idea what this means. Can you explain?

Stop pretending to be Latina online. If you were Latina it would not need an explanation.

Strikes me as a racist comment, but if you meant it another way, please do explain.

Otherwise, I can just assume that you are a racist a-hole and that I can simply ignore you.

But... Whiteness is a construct. Or did you think white people existed before the 1600s? Please take a time machine to 1457 and ask an Englishman if he is white.

Blackness is a construct too.

? I’m the person who called them out on misspelling “privilege.” I’m not the person you responded to. If you don’t believe me, you can ask Jeff. He’ll confirm it.

I’ll add something more: Ethnicities/races in general are constructs, based on arbitrary, entirely subjective criteria about appearance.

And just like that the world passed you by.

Damn shame. But you can't make people change. Which is why it is crucial to teach the kids better from the start.

Agreed. Just not BLM or CRT propaganda. I am all for teaching kids to treat everyone with respect. Everyone. White people should respect Black people. Black people should respect Jews and transgender people. Asians should respect Black people. And on and on. And no one should be made to feel bad about their skin color, religion or gender. And calling people racists because they don’t agree with BLM ideology is bullying.

Calling a spade a spade is NOT bullying. Don’t want to be called a racist? Don’t act like one. It’s really not that hard. I’m sorry that you’re uneducated and don’t understand what racism is. There’s always time to better yourself, grow, and evolve as a person.

You are wrong. You are a bully.

Rather be a bully to a racist than a racist. *shrugs*
