No one cares about Folklore. Go away, obsessed Taylor Swift crazy. |
It was never dominated by indie music in the past! WTH are you talking about? I used Taylor Swift as an example of an indie folk vibe in THE MAINSTREAM. Can you read? And you say you’re going with the musical experts, and yet you ignore Rolling Stone and NME, both of which described Folklore as having an indie folk vibe, which EXACTLY WHAT I SAID. |
Yeah, I know. Because she’s an example of indie folk sensibilities in the mainstream, which doesn’t fit with your narrative. |
It was. Just a few years ago, the winners were acts like Arcade Fire, Mumford and Sons, and Beck. For the past several years it's been pop and hip hop, and those have dominated the nominations as well. Again, you're just so clueless as to actual indie rock that it's comical. Do you know the kind of bands that used to cover Rolling Stone and NME, back in the 00s? Ding ding ding! It was almost all indie bands! Now it's mostly pop and hip hop. You really, really need to educate yourself. This is just embarassing. |

PP: Indie folk is dead! No one cares about it!
Me: Taylor Swift is a mainstream artist who did an album this year with indie folk vibes. PP: Taylor Swift isn’t an indie folk artist! It’s a pop album! Listen to the experts! Me: Here are two articles by music critics who say her album has indie folk overtones. I never said she was indie; I said she’s a mainstream artist who shows that indie folk can sell to the masses. PP: Shut up no one cares! |
No, because this is a thread about BTS and no one cares that you're an obsessed super fan. You are not an indie fan- go back to listening to Blank Space. |
It was never “almost all” indie bands. The existence of Arcade Fire, Beck, and Mumford and Sons doesn’t negate the ever-increasing popularity of pop and hip hop. There have always been indie bands, hip hop, and pop fighting for the spotlight. Just because pop and hip hop are at the very top right now doesn’t mean indie bands have peaked and no one cares about them. Talk about out of touch. |
I don’t even like Taylor Swift that much. You argued indie folk isn’t in the mainstream, so I used her an example of it. Then you argued it’s a pop album and ignored Rolling Stone literally calling it an indie folk album. |
|
^It absolutely means indie rock has peaked, lol. No matter how you may think otherwise. You're clueless enough to ignore all facts, but maybe reading a book like Meet Me in the Bathroom can help. Or any of the myriad articles about this subject.
ezra koenig: “is rock dead? yes. is the guitar a relevant instrument? not really” The sub headline from this article in I-d (a very hip publication- just clarifying for you since, from your lack of awareness/coolness, I'm sure you've never heard of it): "The indie boom is long over, but Vampire Weekend have prevailed as the era’s most imaginative and transcendent group." |
Taylor Swift putting out ONE pop album with slight indie rock influences says absolutely nothing about the overall decline in indie rock prominence in cultural discourse. You are so obsessed and I'm guessing it's because you dont ACTUALLY know any real indie bands, and that's sad. Just admit you prefer pop and stop pretending to be something you're not, cause it's going to be so embarrassing when this happens IRL and you get called out on knowing absolutely nothing. God, how cringe. |

Lol, the most overrated piece of shit headline that’s been written every year since the head of Decca told Brian Epstein, “guitar groups are on the way out, Mr. Epstein.” Meanwhile, more guitars were sold this year than any year on record and guitar-oriented groups continue to exist *just* below the surface and have been featured in album of the year nominations virtually every year since 2000. But sure — continue to traffic in the tired trope that the popularity of hip hop and pop means rock is dead. |
Indie rock was NEVER truly in the mainstream. That you think it ever was is laughable. It never overtook pop and hip hop as the music more people listened to than anything else. It never *truly* was the driving force in cultural discourse. That has been hip hop and pop, especially since the 80s. But that doesn’t change the fact that indie rock continues to be popular, just under the surface. |
Then you're delusional and wishfully thinking. There are way more hip hop and pop acts than there were in the aughts and early 2010s, particularly among the winners. Also, the grammys are not the only litmus test. Magazine covers and cultural dominance is the most important one |
You argued that indie rock/folk DOMINATED in the early 00s and now it’s dead from the nominations. Totally untrue. But I see you’re now moving the needle to magazine covers and some amorphous “cultural dominance.” |
