Nest level lacrosse: girls

From what I saw, their top Midfield line could all easily play on an A team.

If NL wants to attract higher level of players and work towards becomes a more elite club they need to increase both quanity and quality of tourneys

If I had to guess, and this is purely speculation, but I would wonder if NL is trying to prevent their players from being recruited away by more established teams until NL itself can be more established as a club for girls.

I did just MoCo teams for my list. WAYS is based out of Bethesda. I think this is the second year of the "club." I think they have a sister field hockey team as well.

I'd put Pride as my #1 program overall in VA. I know they are relatively young as well, but I've been impressed from what I've seen from a few age groups.

May want to specify the grad years to offer useful info. with the exception of heroes - and even they looked spotty at 29 and 30, mostly other clubs vary pretty widely grad year to year if you look at NGLL and tourney machine.

Just comparing each MoCo club's A team 2025's and younger...(yes I'm aware I have too much time on my hands)

BLC
2025 - Bottom of B
2026 - Mid level B
2027 - Top 3 A team in DMV
2028 - Bottom of A, could probably be pretty competitive in B brackets
2029 - Lower tier A team, would also do well in B brackets
2030 - Middle of the pack

NL
2025 - no team
2026 - no team
2027 - Pretty good B team. Lost in finals of NGLL B. It would be interesting to see how they'd compete in A
2028 - Won NGLL B title, also would be interesting to see how they stack up against A. Doesn't look like they had much competition this spring
2029 - Lost in finals of NGLL B - again, promising, but wonder how they stack up.
2030 - No team yet

MC Elite
2025 - Didn't have a great NGLL season, but were in the A bracket. Would probably be a playoff B team
2026 - Lower level A team, but played M&D Black fairly close
2027 - Low B.
2028 - No team that I know of
2029 - Low B
2030 - No team yet

Rebels
2025 - Low B
2026 - No team
2027 - Mid to low B. Played some close games in NGLL, but shows promise
2028 - No team
2029 - No team
2030 - No team

Ways
Only team is 2026
2026 - Low B

Rankings
2025
1. MC Elite
2. BLC
3. Rebels

2026
1. MC Elite
2. BLC
3. Ways

2027
1. BLC
2. NL
3. Rebels
4. MC Elite

2028
1. NL
2. BLC (I'd like to see those two play)

2029
1. BLC
2. NL (also would be a good game between the two)

2030
1. BLC

I'll be interested in seeing how things shake out next year, but NL seems to be moving in the right direction comparatively.

Thank you for this!!!

Can someone explain what happens if your kid tries out for a club that doesn't currently have a team for that grad year?

For example, NL 2026. Does the club inform the families after tryouts about (1) whether they will actually be able to field a team, (2) whether it will be an A or B team, and (3) whether it will be playing in NGLL?

Very good question...this is where things get shady with ALL clubs. I have no experience with NL at all but ALL clubs try to make things sound like "we should have a great team" , "we expect a highly competitive program"....honestly it takes some time before you can figure out who and what to trust. Very frustrating

This is why I'd recommend trying out for a couple different clubs if possible. I know a big issue with this is that tryouts seem to overlap more and more often.

It is a tricky situation. I know for example M&D 2027s last year put out a 2027 Red roster after tryouts with only 14 or 15 girls on it. Ultimately they ended up not fielding the team. I'm not sure how difficult it was for those families to find another team though.

In many cases, the club will definitely have you believe there will be plenty of girls to field a team... I don't think any of the clubs would promise an A level team the first year fielding it though (unless it's 29s, 30s, etc). I'd also assume most area clubs would want to place their teams in NGLL if at all possible.

Personally, I'd be skeptical trying out for a team that will be in it's first year even if I knew for sure it would happen unless you're talking about the younger girls (29s and younger).

From what I saw in the final, they probably have 6 or 7 girls that are definite A team quality.

For those with younger players, NL and MCE do have 2030 teams, they just didn’t play in the NGLL this year but played in the MoCo MGLL league.

Fwiw, at least for 26, many of the pride a starters are Montgomery county and NW DC. It is a Catholic school crew.

That isn't surprising on the private school aspect and Pride. For the good public school players, they will look to the HC/Baltimore clubs if Pride isn't working

What a fantastic season for the 28s. It looks like they surprised a lot of people.

NL 27s and 29s unfortunately did not win today, but also had great seasons.

NL seems to be building something special. Next season is going to be very important in taking the next steps towards becoming, hopefully, an elite club.

i watched alot of the 27 championship game and came away impressed. To hang with a team that could probably beat 40% of the A teams was impressive for a young team. In fact, if NL would have chosen to play a narrower rotation, it probably would have been an even closer game.

Really impressed by two of their starting middies. Club may have a challenge convining them to stay; they can both clearly play at the highest levels of MD youth lacrosse.

So Hero's White 27 (10th of 12 A Division NGLL) played CCLax (9-0 in B Division NGLL) and beat them 10-4.
The 11th of 12 FCA Blue A division also beat CCLex.

I think your 40% estimate is more like 7%.

There is such a gap between A and B.

Agree there is a big gap. That said, FCA has lost to TLC twice, Uproar and Renegades. Reality is that within the bottom 3 or 4 in A and top 3 or 4 , anyone can beat anyone. The only real difference is A teams tend to have a bit better depth.

I think we can both agree though that a middle team like Integrity would have a much better chance of losing to HoCo, Stars or CCLax than they would have of beating M&D, Heros or even NEMS

I wouldn't call Integrity a middle A, I'd put them a little lower, but yes, Hero's M&D only really are threat amongst themselves.
