| So does anyone know what NL is saying now? Are they planning to step it up and compete in NGLL? I would imagine the players going there from MC and BLC would have found out before making the switch? |
true but cavaliers girls teams are head and shoulders better than the four you mentioned. BLC is the only one who's even close |
|
I am sincerely curious what BLC years people are referring to when comparing with NL. Everyone knows that BLC has an excellent 2027 team, but the rest of their girls teams are generally equivalent to NL girls teams at those age levels. And that is despite the fact that BLC has a massively larger recruiting area, as well as better marketing and name recognition.
My DD plays NL and her team has not lost to their BLC equivalent in a couple years, although each time it is very close. Haven't lost to Pride Red either in both tournaments and box. And to be frank, MC Elite at that year is a definite step down in quality from NL, BLC and Pride. I will concur with the qualms about both conditioning and quality of coaching at NL. They just are not as well drilled as other teams from outside DMV. However, it also means that they don't have an a-hole on the sidelines and frankly I feel embarrassed for other parents and other teams when their coaches are red-faced, yelling, a-holes. BLC seems to be doing much better on recruiting coaches who also coach at private schools, which I think in the end will make a difference and probably the arc of history will be in their favor. Particularly since they have a significantly larger recruiting area. And also, NL losing their indoor facility really diminishes their #1 comparative advantage. |
| Have they definitely lost their indoor facility? Just lacrosse or for field hockey too? |
NL had registered teams at two different years to play in NGLL 'B' during the spring, which was upended due to COVID. No MoCo teams including NL and BLC played in the NGLL makeup tournament, except MC Elite 2024. Who knows what will happen in Spring 2021. If I had to guess I would think it would be about the same as what was supposed to happen in Spring 2020 with a couple NL teams playing NGLL B and the rest playing MGLL. |
Incorrect. Rebels played as well. |
Isn't Rebels a Frederick team? |
I am not sure that this is fully accurate. BLC has a couple coaches from Bullis but that is not is really because they recruited them and I think that is really the extent of it. It looked for a while that NL was trying to do something similar with Holton, but seems like it fizzled out. I think if NL is really going to succeed, they are going to need to develop that kind of a relationship and they don't really have a lot of options with Stone Ridge and MC Elite already tied-in. |
No. Renegades is the Frederick branch of the program. Rebels is Montgomery county. They practice mainly in Olney. |
Definitely losing the indoor facility. Don’t know if they are officially out yet but they are moving their clinics outdoors (at least on the boys side). |
Is field hockey affected too? |
I would assume. The lease expired and the building is up for redevelopment. If they are still doing things there, maybe they got a temporary reprieve but ultimately it will have to move outdoors or they will have to find a new indoor facility. |
They had their try out in Frederick. Seems like they straddle the line between being a northern Moco/Frederick team. |
They paid to install lights at WES. Seems that they plan to continue to use WES, the Heights and Landon as practice fields with the girls program focused on WES. They were talking about using Stone Ridge fields, but suspect that was nixed due to MC Elite competition. For indoor, I presume that they will use either Rockville Sportsplex or St. James. Honestly, it would be great if the county would build an indoor facility at Cabin John. They have tennis and skating, but a full field indoor soccer/lacrosse facility would get extremely high utilization than either of those. |

After reading the entire thread, it seems that there are two basic options for MoCo girls. Either someone creates an elite All-Star team with elite coaching that takes the best girls from NL, MC and BLC or girls need to commute to HoCo, BC or Anne Arundel to compete.
The All-Star team seems like a real missed opportunity though. It just needs coaching with the credibility to pull it off. |
