The lawsuit against Royal Caribbean/toddler death

I think that he would have been charged no matter what. There was an investigation into her death and that is what led to the charges.

Grandpa is lying.

Why do people lie when they know there's video of their actions? This and the reporter assaulter... it's mind boggling. YOU. ARE. ON. VIDEOTAPE. Why do you lie??!

I’m sure it’s hard for his brain to accept that he’s responsible for the death of a small child. And not in an “oops I backed out of the driveway and didn’t see her” way, but he DECIDED to pick her up and lean her out a window. It’s so astoundingly stupid and he’s clearly not in touch with reality in parading around telling his story. I don’t know how the lawyer, having viewed this video, could encourage the continual telling of the glass wall story.

I do still feel bad for the parents even though others say they’re greedy. I don’t think that’s it. I’m sure they’d give anything in the world to have their daughter back. But accepting the fact someone you trusted brought about an incredibly awful death for your child has to be excruciatingly difficult to process. I wish they’d take a step back from the media spotlight. I don’t think it’s helping them. But my stomach churns at the thought of learning one of my parents killed my child.

The parents are willing to DESTROY someone else (in this case, Royal Caribbean) who did NOTHING wrong. That is pure evil. They deserve every "excruciating" moment they face.

JFC the cruise line is nowhere near being destroyed. It sounds like they want accountability— screens, warnings, etc. I’m not necessarily saying those things are reasonably needed. But I think the parents are grasping at straws “to do something.” They’re not trying to sue them out of existence.

Why are you so defensive of a giant corporation? And yet completely heartless and unable to have any sympathy for these parents who lost a child?

Fake lawsuits ultimately cost all of us more money in goods and services.

Their aorney should be disbarred. So should the mother who is reported to be a prosecutor. She is upholding and spreading a bold faced lie. Her cases should be examined. What prosecutor goes with that lawsuit. She should be investigated for any potential abuse of discretion, prejudice, or discrimination when prosecuting criminals. And the dad is a cop? Wow. What a horrendous family and an even more horrendous attorney they hired.
Their heads should be examined.

I think grandpa is trying to hold onto his job and pension. Maybe they don’t give the full pension to convicted felon cops ?

He was thinking of his pension the day after he dropped his 1 year old granddaughter out of an 11 story window?

Would his mind really go so into damage control mode that fast? "Must save my pension". I think that his first concern was keeping himself out of jail. But now he's been offered a plea bargain that (I think) would keep him out of jail and he's not taking it in spite of the overwhelming evidence against him??

The only thing I can think of is he feels so horrible over Chloe's death that he wants to try to ease the burden for his family by winning a settlement for them and he is willing to go to trial, possibly risk jail in order to give the family time to reach a settlement with the cruise line.

I love how people are referring to him as “grandpa” like he’s 85 years old. Dude probably graduated from high school in 1986– he’s only 51.

Editing above. I am not finding the link where I thought I read she was a prosecutor. Maybe early incorrect reporting? The father is South Bend IN officer.

mental Illness. Remember the grandmother ( I’m vague remembering two incidents) who threw her granddaughter from the overhead pedestrian walkway at Tyson’s I and killed the baby

I don’t think he did it intentionally. He probably has executive functioning issues that impair his judgment.

Grandpa is an IT professional. Father is the cop who would have a pension, unless Grandpa also had a job with a pension? Grandpa is the stepfather of the toddler's mother, which partly explains why he is young, only 51, and a grandpa to a toddler. He is not some 70 year old senior. The video shows him leaning far out the window for many seconds before he picks up the toddler and holds her out the window.

Google Kimberly Wiegand - news reports say she used to be a deputy prosecutor for St Joseph County.

They intentionally released the grainy/low resolution video. I bet you the original video is at least 4k resolution and above which will be shown at the trial.

Anyway, after this video, his next excuse would be that he's blind on one eye, and he has no depth perception, thus, he can't tell if he's outside of the window.

OMG. This video is terrible. You can literally seeing her falling at 6:25. This was after grandpa had her dangling out the window. He should be thrown in jail!

To delay punishment.
When my DD was in 7th grade, a boy cut off part of her hair during locker clean out in the hallway. Not only did people see him with scissors another student discarded, but he was warned the hallway camera video would be shown to his mother. He continued lying even as the principal hit play for his mother.

+1

I have seen this with school assaults. The perp knowingly, willingly and deliberately performs an assault and battery, in full view of the cameras (plural) - and the parents of the perp claim it was "self defense" or something far from the truth, because they don't want to admit that their kid, the perp, has serious problems. Law suit waiting to happen, against both the school system and the perp parents. If you are lucky, they have a nice house with a pool.

Absolutely. Anyone over 50 needs to be kept locked up! They are a danger to everyone. Especially the colorblind!

Actually, my thinking is adult ADHD.
