Prohibited conduct includes, but is not limited to, the following violations:

18. Harassment, Threats, and Bullying: Subjectively and objectively offensive verbal abuse, threats, intimidation, harassment, coercion, bullying or other conduct that threatens or endangers the mental or physical health/safety of any person or causes reasonable apprehension of such harm that is persistent, severe, or pervasive.

Yeah, right. He's the bad guy. Guys like this never end up doing anyone any harm.

They also end up growing up.

Which just means they'll be more discreet with their bigotry

eh. I personally feel sorry for any dumbass young kid who gets labeled anything, even if apparently deserved, at the age of 19 when drunk and immature. Social media sucks.

Honest question. Were you one of the many posters who declared Trayvon Martin was a thug based on his facebook postings? He was between the ages of 15 and 17 for many of his postings.

BTW- I don't think all the guys on that bus were drunk. The voices were clear and not slurred. The ringleader did not appear drunk from what I could view. Somebody had to drive that bus. All college kids do not drink to excess. All nineteen year olds are not immature. Maybe not in the flush DMV, but at nineteen, many kids are financing their own lifestyles, college degrees, going off to war, working full-time jobs, have their own kids, etc.

Have you ever been to a frat event? They hire a driver to drive. It's like one of those large tourist busses you can rent for group events. And I'd bet money that they started drinking before they ever stepped foot on the bus.

Has anyone else found themselves wondering the race of the bus driver, and whether these kids even knew it at the time?

reading between the lines....you think the driver was black? How racist of you to make that assumption.

Wrong university. That's from Oklahoma State University.

These guys were not expelled for exercising their right to free speech. They were expelled for engaging in hate speech during a fraternity event, which is a university sponsored event.

I have a number of Facebook friends who are OU alums. Even the most conservative among them have posted on their pages to support Boren's strong response to this.

Actually, I didn't have any assumption about the race of the driver, the thought just popped into my head. It wasn't even the primary focus of the thought -- the second part was. I'm wondering how blind these kids were in their belief that this was okay that they assumed everyone around them would be okay with it. The bus driver came to mind for me because that was the one person who truly was not part of the scene voluntarily. If it was a chartered bus, he was just given an assignment without knowing that he might be subjected to this. Obviously it would be that much more egregious if the bus driver were black, but really it just goes to the deeply-rooted ignorance and racism of these kids, that they wouldn't even think about how the bus driver might feel about that, or perhaps thought him so far beneath them that his opinion didn't even matter.

But perhaps your own bias is showing that you made that assumption yourself.

You do realize that is a different school. Oklahoma University and Oklahoma State University are two different universitites. I get your point and OU probably has something similar.

If y'all wanna read between the lines peep this...

Oklahoma recruit Jean Delance withdrew his commitment to coach Bob Stoops after seeing the video. Delance is a four-star offensive lineman who is ranked No. 272 on the ESPN Junior 300, he committed to the Sooners in November. On Monday Delance told CBS 11 in Dallas-Fort Worth, "Very uneducated people. I wouldn't want my son or child to go there or to anywhere like that." The next day Oklahoma president David Boren expelled two students he says have been identified as leading the chant. Boren said in a statement the two were dismissed for creating a "hostile learning environment for others."

Now...is it me or does this swift reaction coincide at all with the fact that this video is having an adverse effect on the Sooners recruiting? If recruits get the impression the Oklahoma is a racist environment and start passing them over then Oklahoma won't be making too many bowl games which means Oklahoma won't be making as much money. Call me a cynic, but its been my observation that the only time racist shit really isn't tolerated is when it messes with the bottom line - - - cash$$$money. Consider the fact that Oklahoma ranks #11 on the Forbes list of College Football's most valuable teams with a Football Profit of $36 million. http://www.forbes.com/pictures/emdm45el/university-of-oklahoma-sooners/ You really think they are going to jeopardize that green to tolerate a few dumbasses who wanna get drunk and sing stupid songs?

To white fans of rap songs that have the N word, when singing along, do you say the N word (even if just singing alone quietly to yourself), or do you literally skip that word as you sing along? I jog every week to old Snoop/Dre (Chronic) and old Easy E, among others.

I'm a white guy and yes, I too will sing along to songs. I also watch Tarantino movies with gratuitous use of the N-word. So here's the catch- use of the word does not necessarily indicate hate, at least IMO. FFS- if I'm singing along to House of Pain I'm not advocating for violence against women. Right?

But in this video, these guys aren't just saying the N word. They're singing- in unison- a well practiced song about how they'll never let any Ns into SAE and how they'll hang them from a tree. This wasn't just the spontaneous use of the N word by some white guy on a bus, it was a group of white guys singing that song in a choreographed way that indicates it was sung many, many times.

Seriously- it goes so far beyond the simple use of the N word in modern culture and media. Because use of the word HAS become more socially acceptable. But if you can't see the difference between popular rap and the video in question, I don't know what to say.

I just wanted to make sure that a bunch of white liberals were not so riddled with guilt that they literally edit themselves in their own cars when singing along to awesome music. That would make my head explode.

and yeah, I know the video is horrible. but in some respects, it IS JUST A SONG. A horrible archaic racist song that maybe they have been singing there for 50 years. It has to stop sooner or later, and I guess not it has. But just because a drunk 19 year old is singing a racist song does not mean, in my opinion, that (1) they are truly racist in their heart and actions and (2) if they are, that they will not grow up and change as they move out of Oklahoma and see the real world.

And here my friends is a perfect example of how racism is allowed to breed and continue.

I'm just reiterating that in this country the only color that really matters is green and the only race that really matters is the race to get that cash$$$money.
Dr. King didn't succeed in bringing about Civil Rights change by simply gathering folks to sing "We Shall Overcome" and giving a speech about a dream...he brought about change by getting behind the Memphis Sanitation Workers and their Strike. You mess with the cash$$$money and you will evoke some change.

I don't think Right of Free Speech means what you think it does. . . You have a right to freedom of speech against the Federal Government via the US Constitution. Not at a university.

Public universities are government. They have a case.

Still, I'm glad they were expelled.

But they are not the Federal Government. Nevertheless, most universities have regulations allowing suspension in cases such as these. I bet OU does as well.

Government is government. Doesn't have to be federal. 14th amendment of US Constitution.

Yes, but even the constitutionally-protected right of free speech is not completely unfettered. There are safety exceptions. yelling fire in a crowded building is the often used example.

Hate speech is not a type of speech that has restrictions.

But they were expelled for causing an unsafe environment for fellow students. Are you forgetting the whole lynching part?

Guy1: You going out with Suzy tonight?

Guy2: yeah boy! Ima hit it tonight. Hit it till it bleeds.

I support him too. But that doesn't mean he'd win if the kids sue.

Once that video landed, they were constructively expelled anyways. I am not sure they would want to walk around campus being known as the guys in this video. Could get dangerous for them. TBH, the best that I think they can hope for is that they sue and they settle with OU to get the "expulsion" off their offficial record on the condition that they voluntarily withdraw. But they are done at OU.
