I agree. This is not the focus. But, right or wrong, people will continue to bring this up. And, people could eliminate the argument (and they should)by eliminating all use of the word. So, unfortunately, until that happens you will hear this from some people.

There is a very sad blurb in this Sunday's NYT magazine about a black woman who does consulting. Everything goes well until she meets the potential client, and then she often doesn't get the work. She asked how she could signal to the potential client that she was black so that she didn't waste her time meeting people who wouldn't hire her because of race.

Sadly, the NYT writer told her that he had a gay client who would often state that he did pro bono work for various gay organizations and that she might do the same. When potential clients read her Linked In or CV, they would see this info and decide upfront whether they wanted to proceed.

Chase yourself in definitional circles as long as you wish, but anyone who is honest knows there is racism, prejudica and discrimination against whites by some non-whites.

I love this argument. It's usually from people who are upset that they cannot use the word. PP, why do you care who gets to use the word? It's wrong and unless you are dying to use it, it shouldn't concern you. Let idiots be idiots and go on with your life. But, if you really want to use it, I give you my permission. Just be willing to pay the consequences. Your free speech rights are protected so that means you won't get arrested. Anything else that happens is fair game

Right... although I do not use it, the PP should feel free to use it as they see fit. And when they are on the verge of getting their teeth knocked out, they should state that they thought it was Ok because they heard some AA's use it with each other. I am sure the person getting ready to kick her butt will see the merit of that argument.
