It's not suspicious at all. If they wanted to silence Colbert, why keep him on the air for an entire year with nothing to lose? The Trump conspiracy theories don't make any sense. He's old and tired, expensive, and then to top it off, he publicly railed against his bosses. I mean.... you can't behave that way, put up loser ratings, get paid $15M per year and keep your job. Come on. |
Me too. He and Kimmel are our nightly must-watch on Youtube. |
It's not cancelled, just won't be renewed. They are ending their late night franchise. |
I think late night talk shows are on their way out. I enjoy Colbert and Kimmel for their humorous views on news, guest star interviews and the occasional musical guest. It seems a bit archaic with white male hosts in suits bantering with their bandleader or their sidekick. |
That doesn't change any of the facts I laid out. You dont silence someone by giving them a year on the air with nothing to lose. |
This. The people who desperately want this to be some kind of conspiracy make me laugh. It was a huge money loser for the network. Next. |
Occam's Razor just doesn't work on people who are determined to see conspiracy everywhere they look. |
Pay attention. CBS is in the middle of a merger with skydance. As it drags on, CBS loses millions. Who is in charge of mergers? The federal government is and then you have the biggest baby in charge, Trump, who can’t handle anyone making fun of him. Why do you think they payed for the nonsense 60 minutes settlement? Because they want this merger to go through. |
Despite what that magas on this thread want to believe Colbert is so talented and really does such a great job with all his interviews. |
Then why was his show not profitable? |
Bingo! MAGAs continue to divert, deflect, and deny the facts. |
It’s easy to find plenty of links that talk about how it has been losing roughly $40 million per year at this point. If I weren’t driving right now, I would post some. I have not seen anything that counters these assertions. |
Why cancel now? CBS had ample opportunity to do so. Why now? Because of the merger. Trump can’t handle his feelings being hurt. |
Well, they did not “cancel” it now. They indicated that they will not be renewing it after its current contract expires on schedule next year. They are simply acknowledging the obvious trend that the traditional late night variety show format is not sustainable in 2025. They do not anticipate that Colbert could make it profitable again, nor that anyone else could. And corporate mergers and restructuring tend to have a way of encouraging these hard decisions when various business units are under increased scrutiny to put their financial pictures in the best possible light. |
