With Love, Meghan on Netflix

I thought she meant it more in a past tense way than not acknowledging Meghan is married. But the weird part to me is that she waxed on about how special sharing a last name with her kids when the last name is completely invented and not actually anyone's last name. It's a title they adopted as a last name. I'm not even sure they legally have it?

Right that is what I don't understand. I mean we all know she is married but what does that have to do with her last name. Most celebs don't change their name. Does she just want to be a one name celeb? Is she disavowing Markle? Is it Harry Sussex now?

Right and she's been married for 7 years now - why does she keep bringing it up?? Nobody cares.

Mindy's face when she said it. Holy cow! How did this not get cut from final.

RIGHT - I think this goes back to that article about how everyone on their podcast production team HATED her. I am confident that everyone on her TV show production team also hates her. Mindy is never doing Megsie a favor ever again.

I was scared to watch it because I hate cringing but it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. She was saying it in a light-hearted way, as a segue into talking about why she changed her last name (I actually cringed more at that part). Mindy is a friend of hers, so it was supposed to be a relaxed conversation.

Either that or she just takes herself way too seriously. And is trying to milk the royal stuff so that people might actually give a s**t, like they used to.

Totally disagree re her tone and this is not how most people have a relaxed conversation with friends. She sounds so affected and high on herself.

DP. I watched the scene and Meghan tensed up in “playfully” explaining her last name to Mindy. It’s also bizarre. If Harry was “Harry Wales” that makes sense - his father was prince of Wales for decades, he learned Welsh, as his brother did, and his mom was the most famous woman in the world for about 15 years as Princess of Wales. His sister in law also has a high level of fame and that title and they go to Wales.

Allegedly allegedly Meghan has been to Sussex between 1 and 3 times total in life. They fled the UK about a year and a half after getting that title. It’s weird to cling to that title, esp when she seems to want to be mononymous. The problem is that there are legitimately other extremely famous Meghan/Megans.

I realize that may not be the intent, and it's edited, and Mindy Kaling might be partnered privately, but it absolutely comes across that way and is HARD TO WATCH.

Oh this is SUCH a good point.

I liked it, she is good and natural, I shall watch the other episodes too.
I think there are a whole lot of bitter people here on this forum.
They had their reasons for leaving, the British tabloids are aweful and continue to print stories about her weekly, sometimes even daily,
Harry is not the heir, let him do with his life what he wants.
Meghan is beautiful and talented. The show is not as bad as you say.

No one blames them for leaving and trying to have their own lives. We blame them for selling out their family for big bucks. Repeatedly.

Ok I have not watched this show and am not a Meghan fan or anything, and actually I did not even take my DH's name, but I have zero problem with this.

It's not her name. People call her Meghan Markle all the time but it's legally not her name. She took her husband's name and since her husband belongs to this stupid family where their names are dictated by their title, they are "the Sussex family." Yes that part of it is dumb but it is still her name and it's okay to ask people to call you by your actual name and not by whatever they feel like calling you.

I used to have to correct people all the time when I got married and didn't take my husband's name. A lot of people made assumptions and wanted to call me Mrs. [his last name]. And when I'd say "nope, I'm still [my name]" I know plenty of people thought I was being annoying. But I was just letting people know what my name is so that they could call me by my actual name. Are you supposed to just ignore it when people call you the wrong name for years? I don't get what you all think she should do.

It's also annoying of Mindy to be saying her first and last name all the time and referring to Meghan in the third person there. It makes Mindy sound like she just read tabloids all the time and has no manners. That's an off-putting way of interacting with someone.

BUT, you don't do it on your own show and in the way she did, which obviously did embarass Mindy. "Funny you say that..." Is not the way to handle it. Could have been done in a different more humorous and self deprecating way.

I don't think she has a choice. Mama's gotta pay the bills.

And I assume she is contractually obligated to Netflix to try SOMETHING, ANYTHING.

^Mindy does that all the time - that's her thing, she kinda fan-girls everyone. Not unusual at all for Mindy.

She's not interested in having people call her by her "actual" name - which I assume is Meghan Sussex since she says it's her surname. She wants to be Meghan, THE DUCHESS of Sussex. The closing credits make this clear.

It cracked the top 10 this morning. I'm sure many are checking it out out of curiosity. Will be curious to see how long it remains there.

I didn’t know Mindy Kaling is a single parent. That’s a good point. Not surprising that she’s insensitive though, what is interesting is why that scene wasn’t cut, I think the producers secretly don’t like her. I think she’s too dim to realize how she comes across so the producers or who’ve ever should have stepped in.

I’ve only watched 1 1/2 episodes but why do they always stand while eating in the kitchen. It just looked uncomfortable especially when her guest was eating that pasta dish

I think they had to use what they had, and it wasn't much. I feel like MK was like: I have two hours for this, and that was that. They didn't do retakes, guests game and went quickly. Alice Waters inthe last episode was featured for a much shorter amount of time, and did not stay for the "party".

Yeah, I think you’re right - that’s why she corrected Mindy and that’s what she was referring to with the little speech about her family. She considers herself royalty, and it’s part of her brand. But she can’t have it both ways, after fleeing the royal family, and nobody in the US gives a bleep about those titles! That’s why everything they do goes over like a lead balloon. Go back to England if you want anyone to care about that.
