With Love, Meghan on Netflix

I liked it, she is good and natural, I shall watch the other episodes too.
I think there are a whole lot of bitter people here on this forum.
They had their reasons for leaving, the British tabloids are aweful and continue to print stories about her weekly, sometimes even daily,
Harry is not the heir, let him do with his life what he wants.
Meghan is beautiful and talented. The show is not as bad as you say.

No one blames them for leaving and trying to have their own lives. We blame them for selling out their family for big bucks. Repeatedly.

I read the book and watched all the interviews.
I don’t think there was anything that new or drastic in them.
It was always obvious to me that at that level there would be a lot of internal palace intrigue as to what was written in the press and about whom.
I think they have done well.

There is nothing spectacular about the royal family. So nothing new

Why did she change her brand name from Riviera Orchard or whatever it was?

And Beatrice and Eugenie's husbands still use their own last names as well.

Some in the family use Philipps, Tindall, and Mountbatten-Windsor.

Outside of the working royals in the immediate RF - I am not sure if anyone uses a spouse's title as their last name.

And given Meghan and Harry wanted nothing to do with the RF when they left...it seems even odder that just now she is starting to use it.

And how would Mindy know? There doesn't seem to be any sign she has called herself Meghan Mountbatten-Windsor until 2024 or Meghan Sussex since.

Catherine actually now goes by Catherine Kent. She previously went by Catherine Wales. It is actually disrespectful to call her Kate Middleton, and she doesn't like it.

Sophie started going by Sophie Wessex when she was the Duchess of Wessex. They actually still refer to her like this in the press sometimes even though she's now the Duchess of Edinborough.

So actually Meghan going by Meghan Sussex has precedence. Also, it's her name and I believe in calling people by the name they tell me to use. It's not like it's' coming out of nowhere -- she is Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, or Meghan Sussex for short. Makes sense, what's the issue.

If the BRF wants to strip her and Harry of their titles, then do so, and she can go by something else I guess.

Gee, what’s the distinction between Sophie and Catherine on the one hand and Meghan on the other? E for effort I guess.

Ok I have not watched this show and am not a Meghan fan or anything, and actually I did not even take my DH's name, but I have zero problem with this.

It's not her name. People call her Meghan Markle all the time but it's legally not her name. She took her husband's name and since her husband belongs to this stupid family where their names are dictated by their title, they are "the Sussex family." Yes that part of it is dumb but it is still her name and it's okay to ask people to call you by your actual name and not by whatever they feel like calling you.

I used to have to correct people all the time when I got married and didn't take my husband's name. A lot of people made assumptions and wanted to call me Mrs. [his last name]. And when I'd say "nope, I'm still [my name]" I know plenty of people thought I was being annoying. But I was just letting people know what my name is so that they could call me by my actual name. Are you supposed to just ignore it when people call you the wrong name for years? I don't get what you all think she should do.

It's also annoying of Mindy to be saying her first and last name all the time and referring to Meghan in the third person there. It makes Mindy sound like she just read tabloids all the time and has no manners. That's an off-putting way of interacting with someone.

BUT, you don't do it on your own show and in the way she did, which obviously did embarass Mindy. "Funny you say that..." Is not the way to handle it. Could have been done in a different more humorous and self deprecating way.

I don't have a show so I didn't do it on one, lol.

I was not bothered by the way she bristled about it because again, I remember bristling a bit when people would use the wrong name for me when I got married. I was sensitive about it because I didn't like being assigned a name that wasn't my name. So to me, that was natural. You've never been that way with a friend? I have. Like "hey you know I didn't take my DH's name when we got married, stop calling me that." In this case it's the opposite but it's fine.

People expect women to be so smooth and tactful and unbothered at all times and it's just unrealistic. She's human. Her friend was using her old name and it annoyed her and she was like "hey why do you keep calling me Megan Markel, you know it's not my name anymore." It's not like she was incensed. She kind of smiles. But her name means something to her. Why is that okay for me but not for her?

I say this as someone who NEVER relates to Megan. I don't really think about her at all, but I like cooking/entertaining shows so came here to read reviews. But in the clip someone posted, I immediately though "yeah that's how I'd handle that too."

What name are they supposed to use? You want them to go by "the Markles"? Mountbatten-Windsor is a mouthful and frankly sounds a heck of a lot stuffier than Sussex. So what's the difference. It is in fact their family name.

Some of you are so baffling.

Yeah. No.

If your question is serious - no, most of us don’t have the experience of “bristling” at being called the wrong name, and it’s wonderful that you NEVER relate to Meghan. You don’t need to twist anything to justify her absurd clinging to that title, as captured in the credits of each show. She is not going by Meghan Sussex and instead Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, because again, she’s trying to be the only Meghan when Fox, Thee Stallion, Mullaly and McCain are also famous and somehow each more liked than Markle.

Also Meghan grew up very middle class so why is it surprising that she would eat Jack-in-the-Box?

Yeah agreed, Mindy is clearly putting minimal effort into this "dialogue" that seems so contrived.

In no way, does the Princess Of Wales go by Catherine Kent. She has zero attachment to Kent. If anything, she’d be Catherine Wales. Sheesh. If you’re going to pontificate, at least be correct.

She should be able to correct people on her proper name, no one should have an issue with that.

I don't think she wants to be called "Meghan Sussex", I think she wants to be called "Meghan, Duchess of Sussex." Which is going to be weird for Americans, since that's not how we do last names. Americans can't even wrap their head around Spanish surnames!

I think the more uncomfortable and tone deaf part was her saying she wanted to share a name with her kids, to show that they're a "family." Lots of kids don't share a last name with their mom. I mean, even Meghan grew up with a mom who had a different last name! Just seemed like she could've been more diplomatic or sensitive about that topic, since it might be touchy for people.
