Talk of potential government shutdown?

The Dems need to be shouting from the rooftops that this is a mess of the Republicans' own making, that they have nobody else to blame, and it's high time they grow up, stop playing stupid games and start GOVERNING like responsible adults. And that goes for dealing with Trump, too. And that if they ever want Democrats' help, they need to seriously change course.

WRONG: Just read Heather Cox Richardson today. If Dems play and let Rs shut down government, it gives him authority to fire everyone except essential employees, of which there are few. We’d lose even more with a government shutdown. I hope the Dems wake up.

Nope! Republicans have a MANDATE and don't need Democrats for anything remember? This is all on them. And I hope Trump does just fire everyone, it will be a much easier lawsuit to get reinstated

Trump won in a LANDSLIDE.

Enjoy being crushed by the landslide!

What happened to all the squawking about getting the deficit and debt under control?

Can he do even that without Dem votes?
I think Dems shouldn't give him the votes, even for a CR, if they can't trust Trump will actually spend the money on the things it was appropriated for.

Senate Dems are already caving- because it wouldn’t look good to let the government shut down.

Seems the House Dems are not - for the moment. Unfortunately given the pathetic little signs at Trump’s speech, enough may go along.

MAGA and I paid nearly 400k in taxes last year and will pay more this year. I don't feel like I get 400k worth of services from the government.

what services do you expect to be getting for those tax dollars at that income? do you understand the purpose of government? do you ever travel by plane? drive on an interstate highway? have a passport? enjoy relative peace and security? eat food you didn’t grow? put money in a bank? relatedly, did you struggle to share growing up? do you have some sort of deficiency where you are capable of feeling empathy or kindness towards others?

oh and I assume if you fall on your butt and stop earning close to a million dollars a year, I assume then you have no plans of using any government assistance

Isn't the family/individual paying $100K also getting same services?

A lot of the stupid bloat needs to be cut because dems let Biden administration through money at everything without thinking. I feel ashamed as a US taxpayer for the kind of things coming out of USAID and we don't money to support people at FEMA. Go ahead and some of you would come up with something silly to support why we couldn't support or bureaucracy or something else.

DP. There have been hiring freezes for most of the past ten years. Last year, lots of agencies were finally able to hire lots of new employees, both young grads and older more experienced employees to help build the replacements of the old-timers who are facing retirement. Not bloat but needed people.

Then Elon Musk fired them all.

You’re paying for stability and safety for all people. Otherwise you end up living in a guarded compound and worry about your kids getting kidnapped on way to school. National defense too — you have way more to lose so insurance cost is higher.

I’m ashamed you bought into right wing lies. You’re a moron who probably doesn’t even realize how much government does for you. The cuts will likely hurt you in ways you haven’t thought.

And it’s threw not through. Biden threw money… he didn’t btw.

This is what I don't get. I have lived in several countries where that is the reality, because the government is so weak/corrupt that it cannot offer basic services (like sanitation! or regular electricity!) or any security. So society is heavily stratified, unstable, and dangerous. Crime and violence is everywhere. The wealthiest hire their own guard and live in mini-compounds and are driven everywhere. They leave the country for medical care, and send their kids for schooling abroad. If a family is not super wealthy, they do everything possible to educate their kids and get them out of there. The ultra-wealthy do pretty well in that type of society, and literally everyone else loses.

I am not talking about employees. They have significant number of contractors but my main concern is how they are spending money on some of these stupid programs. How could they allow it?

House Dems have told Mikey he’s going to have to whip his party to get his CR to September. GOP wouldn’t agree to requiring the executive branch to spend the money in accordance with Congress’ appropriations.

+1

Everything. And it all must be spent, too, not saved or held by the president or mailed out to taxpayers in a check.

You don't know what you're talking about. Congress approved the funding and spending and most of the crap Elon claimed about USAID like "condoms for Gaza" were gross distortions and lies.

Did you also believe Trump the other night when he said the government was spending millions to study "transgender mice?" It's people like you who make Republicans look like complete idiots who don't know what they are talking about. It's massively cringeworthy and makes normal people fear for our future, you're straight out of the movie "Idiocracy," PP.
