Time to come together and move forward as one nation

Who’s with me?

Hmmm…unity like in 2020? Funny how that’s now the call. And Democrats will do it, just like 2000, because we believe in democracy.

We have a president who has no interest in what is best for America, or in making it a better place. This is a time for resistance, not naivete.

But no, I'm not going to "come together" with people who think that I don't deserve to make healthcare decisions about my own body or think that their right to own an AR 15 is more important than my and my children's right to not get randomly shot in public.

I'm sorry, I just can't "come together" with people who believe those things.

What's the alternative? Fight them? Despise them? Deplore them?

How will any of those options improve things?

My suggestion: talk to them, listen to them, and find areas where you do agree. Find common ground where it exists and gain mutual understanding where it doesn't.

THAT is the path forward to a better nation.

Hard Pass. I don't need a$$holes as friends. Coming around to their way of thinking (what you think I should do) is not going to "improve" things either.

You missed the point entirely.

1. I’m not talking about being “friends”. I’m talking about interacting.

2. I’m not talking about “coming around to their way of thinking”. I’m talking about understanding their way of thinking and explaining yours.

You want to make things better and/or get your way politically?

You’d better find allies, forge consensus, and compromise.

MAGA abhor compromise. Where was the compromise when Biden won? Didn't see any? No? That's right, you didn't. You saw an insurrection and constant vitriol and obstruction.

*You* voted for this acrimony. Live with it.

*I* voted for Harris. And Obama. And Clinton. And Biden.

*I* don’t live in a blue bubble.

*I* DGAF about who started it or who’s more awful or who hurt whose feelings.

*I* DO want to win and I never want to see a national MAGA candidate elected again.

*You’d* apparently rather be outraged than sully yourself by actually doing the work to understand and persuade people.

Persuade them with what? Please do tell us how we can get through to the MAGA faithful when they are so deeply, deeply invested in Trump's hateful lies? Please share this amazing wisdom you have that no one has figured out before now. HOW WILL YOU GET THEM OUT OF THEIR BUBBLE? I ask you seriously. Lay it out.

Sully myself? I'm in a bubble? Why? Because I read multiple news sources and think critically about the world?
Because I judge people by their words and actions? I would sully myself if I capitulate to those hateful lies. I will not go along with their hateful nonsense.

You act as though these MAGA people will come to the table to discuss things in good faith. I think you are a fool. Won't ever happen.

How about stop vilifying them for having a different opinion than you.

I am 55 and I spent most of my life as a democrat.
Something went sideways a few years BEFORE trump.
Democrats thought they had a permanent majority and a fringe corner of the Democratic party took it upon themselves to kick the heretics out of the democratic party.
People like AOC tried to replace moderate democrats with more extreme democrats so many resources were going into turning already blue districts even bluer.
It was like they felt that they has a permanent hold on power and it was time to purge the unfaithful.

You question the wisdom of dei? GTFOH, if you're white and you're poor, it's your own fault you racist.
You are reluctant to believe that transwomen are no different than biological women? GTFOH, you're literally trying to kill them, murderer.
You believe in having a conversation with conservatives or even letting them speak? GTFOH, you MAGA appeaser
It was one thing after another that made it hard to figure out who the fascists were.

That was 4 years ago. Move on.

Because if you don’t, then there will be continued division. Don’t feed the seether.

I feel embarrassed for and angry at my fellow Americans. Can you love someone you are ashamed to be seen in public with, figuratively speaking? I don’t think so.

DP. I don't think they mean storm the capitol. That's MAGA crap. But why should Dems embrace the lies as though they are true? If everyone jumps off the Brooklyn bridge, will you?

There will be continued division because that is what Trump does. So unless you want to capitulate and live in the Handmaid's Tale, which many of us don't, the division will continue.

What lies? You simply have to concede that the majority of the country wants Republican right-leaning political policies and values. You don't have to embrace the POTUS or the policies, but you have to sit back and accept it for the next 4 years.

^the same way the majority of Republicans (J6 was fringe group y'all) concede when a Dem wins that the majority of the country wants Democratic left-leaning political policies and values.

+1. A lot of posters on this board come across as rather naïve. Remember when Trump lost, he instigated an insurrection during which people were killed. And yet you now want me to hug, hold hands and sing Kumbaya with you after you voted him in, again?!

I will neither forget, nor forgive. This is my children’s future you are f’ing up. And my planet’s. May a hurricane or a pregnant teen daughter or a job loss show you what you just voted against and what happens when the social networks you so despise are pulled from under your feet. That is my wish, not unity with bigots, egotists and dummies.

Trumps platform was based on a raft of lies. The majority of immigrants coming to this country are not rapists and murders. They are not "polluting our blood lines". They are not eating pets. They are not voting if they are not citizens. They are not stealing "black jobs" (FFS sake do you listen to what he says?) Deporting all immigrants will hurt a lot of businesses. It would be far better to constructively fix the immigration system. The economy is recovering from the pandemic better than most in the world. It is not the worst economy ever and tariffs won't make things cheaper, they will make things more expensive and inflation worse! His economic policies are not sound. The majority of American's don't want restrictive abortion laws and aren't happy he stacked the SC with conservatives who overturned Roe. No one is forcing children to change their gender. Just endless hateful lies.

I may have to accept the outcome of the election but I don't have to pretend that 99% of what he and Vance peddled to get elected is outright BS.

American's voted for the lies they want to be true instead of the reality they don't want to deal with. They prefer scapegoating and entertainment to real attempts to solve hard problems. And they will pay the price.

“Persuade them with what?”

That question literally says it all. You don’t know enough about these people to even know who they are or what they care about.

Start there.

And yes, you should literally sit down at the table with some Trump voters. I think you’ll be surprised at how uninvested most of them are in his most hateful and egregious positions.

This isn’t about “capitulating”. Quite the opposite: it’s about winning.

Perhaps you should apply your undoubtedly elite critical thinking skills to that goal. Seems more productive than performative outrage.

Hold on! I'm white, educated and I have never voted for the orange grease ball!

Then expose all your White friends and family who did - cut all relationships with them.

I am praying that next year hurricane season wipes Florida off the map.

Wait, should I also expose and shun my brown FIL and SIL who voted for Trump.

These rage tantrums are so effing useless.

I have several friends who voted for Trump three times and we get along because we NEVER discuss politics. Instead, we keep to the things we have in common. It also helps that we never gloat when an election goes for us.

i dont think expose but i personally would not be able to have a relationship. that's just me but it is the case. it's up to you but this isn't just like 'oh let's vote for higher taxes or lower taxes' sht.

I also find it indefensible, but I’m focused on one goal: how to make it better.

And I am 100% certain that interacting with people is far more likely to accomplish that goal than shunning.
