Hold on! I'm white, educated and I have never voted for the orange grease ball!

This person is uhm well I not sure really. Hyperbole maybe, shock effect? I don’t want you dead though. I don’t think this is a common sentiment.

Then expose all your White friends and family who did - cut all relationships with them.

I am praying that next year hurricane season wipes Florida off the map.

Wait, should I also expose and shun my brown FIL and SIL who voted for Trump.

These rage tantrums are so effing useless.

i dont think expose but i personally would not be able to have a relationship. that's just me but it is the case. it's up to you but this isn't just like 'oh let's vote for higher taxes or lower taxes' sht.

I also find it indefensible, but I’m focused on one goal: how to make it better.

And I am 100% certain that interacting with people is far more likely to accomplish that goal than shunning.

Okay this I can get behind. As long as no one has to die I’m good. Maybe give them fair warning before they get smited.

But no, I'm not going to "come together" with people who think that I don't deserve to make healthcare decisions about my own body or think that their right to own an AR 15 is more important than my and my children's right to not get randomly shot in public.

I'm sorry, I just can't "come together" with people who believe those things.

What's the alternative? Fight them? Despise them? Deplore them?

How will any of those options improve things?

My suggestion: talk to them, listen to them, and find areas where you do agree. Find common ground where it exists and gain mutual understanding where it doesn't.

THAT is the path forward to a better nation.

--Harris voter who has lived in the bluest and reddest parts of America (happily)

Hard Pass. I don't need a$$holes as friends. Coming around to their way of thinking (what you think I should do) is not going to "improve" things either.

You missed the point entirely.

1. I’m not talking about being “friends”. I’m talking about interacting.

2. I’m not talking about “coming around to their way of thinking”. I’m talking about understanding their way of thinking and explaining yours.

You want to make things better and/or get your way politically?

You’d better find allies, forge consensus, and compromise.

MAGA abhor compromise. Where was the compromise when Biden won? Didn't see any? No? That's right, you didn't. You saw an insurrection and constant vitriol and obstruction.

*You* voted for this acrimony. Live with it.

*I* voted for Harris. And Obama. And Clinton. And Biden.

*I* don’t live in a blue bubble.

*I* DGAF about who started it or who’s more awful or who hurt whose feelings.

*I* DO want to win and I never want to see a national MAGA candidate elected again.

*You’d* apparently rather be outraged than sully yourself by actually doing the work to understand and persuade people.

Persuade them with what? Please do tell us how we can get through to the MAGA faithful when they are so deeply, deeply invested in Trump's hateful lies? Please share this amazing wisdom you have that no one has figured out before now. HOW WILL YOU GET THEM OUT OF THEIR BUBBLE? I ask you seriously. Lay it out.

Sully myself? I'm in a bubble? Why? Because I read multiple news sources and think critically about the world?
Because I judge people by their words and actions? I would sully myself if I capitulate to those hateful lies. I will not go along with their hateful nonsense.

You act as though these MAGA people will come to the table to discuss things in good faith. I think you are a fool. Won't ever happen.

I do miss they days when there wasn't such a stark difference between D and R. Or maybe there was and I was just young enough not to care.

I think you're right. The complaint back then was "WTF is the difference between the two besides abortion"

Exactly.

Fck the MAGAs.

There are radicals on both sides.

How many times have you been called some name for not hewing to the progressive orthodoxy.

the difference being radicals on the left are fringe where as the MAGAs just elected the radicals on the right to the House, Senate and White House.

Sure let the GOP bend the knee and reach across the aisle first

But keep in mind: the mandate is clear. Trump won the popular vote. "Unity" will not be defined as consensus governing to accommodate radical Dem policies.

You guys are going to spend a lot of time hating the senate republicans.
The filibuster is still there.

But yeah, far left Democrats spent a lot of time poisoning the well and driving away voters.

You are a Nazi, garbage and a useful idiot to hostile foreign nations! As a wealthy Democrat, I will sit back and enjoy money rolling into my bank account while you suffer. I will laugh when you cry. I will never forget or forgive. I will be on the right side of history while you with wither into shame.

Then you (or people like you) are the reason why trump won. Good job

Oh come on.

"You have to do the right thing before I will" is how we got into all our current political messes.

How about everyone try to do the right thing by their neighbors regardless of whether they expect to be treated well in return. Heap burning coals of fire on their heads and all that about loving your enemies from the Bible. I know it's counter-cultural, but it was when Jesus and Paul said it too.

I don't think he has any intention of "doing the right thing" any more than the Democrats did the right thing.

We need to get rid of both these parties.

Nah, MAGAs showed that they do not value or possess basic human decency (which is necessary to live in a society) and that they also cannot accept or understand facts. You cannot continue to indulge people like that. The buck has to stop somewhere.

There are, but this is not a valid comparison. There are far fewer truly radical progressives in the Dem party than you have the far-right MAGA types in the GOP. They have taken over the GOP. Moderate Republicans have been ex-communicated.

I have never been called some name for not hewing to progressive orthodoxy and I am not a progressive Dem. The Democrats have always been a heterogenous coalition, at least in my lifetime.

Another Trump voter here. I don’t need any apologies. I just want our country to begin to mend.

Why TF would anyone apologize to Trump voters?

Such a gaslighting abuser comment.

Serious question. Why are you on this thread since you clearly have no interest in moving forward as one nation as the OP proposes? There are 7,999,543 other threads where you can spew your hatred about Trump and those who voted for him.

How exactly do you or the OP propose we all "come together"? The two sides have such fundamentally different views, what do you think we should compromise on exactly? Please give specfic examples of how to do this.

It’s really not that complicated.

Step 1. Stop spewing hatred.

Step 2. If you know someone who voted for a different presidential candidate, sit down with them and actually try to understand why they voted the way they did. If you can’t agree, agree to disagree and acknowledge the other’s right to their opinion. Do not spew hatred in the process.

Step 3. Purposefully meet people who have different opinions than you and engage in step 2.

Step 4. Get your news from a wide range of sources and perspectives. Then engage in Steps 2 and 3.

Step 5. If you’re unwilling to engage in steps 1-4, seek help.

Step 6. Contemplate what you’ve learned by engaging in steps 1-5 and find some common ground.

Aa new Trump voter I am able to do the above with my friends who voted for Harris and guess what: we are still friends and respect each other.

Absolutely not. Besides, as a Black woman, anybody who expressed support for Trump was always against me and never a friend. How could they.

Fine but then don't complain about the country being divided.

Let’s be real, when has this country ever been United. Never. It’s always been a them versus us.

It was not like this 20-40 years ago.

Yea it was. Forty years ago Ronald Reagan was despised by democrats. Now, in comparison to Trump, he would be considered well liked by the same crowd who once despised him. Reagan ushered in Iran-contra, cocaine to inner-city poor neighborhoods, all while ignoring the AIDS epidemic. Thirty years ago we had the right calling Hillary Clinton a murderer, white water, Ken Starr, Paula Jones, Lewinsky, and Clinton impeachments. The politics has worsened. And then in 2000, we had the SCOTUS choosing for the first time in American history to pick the POTUS only to be followed by a 20-year war with the wrong adversaries. Donald Trump came into political prominence in 2012 based on hate and racism with his birtherism, giving many people permission to come out of the closet and take off their sheets and walk boldly in their hate. Yeah it’s never been truly united.

I still can't for the life of me think how people thought a man born to a white Kansas woman would have ever not been a citizen who could run for president. That's kind of what started my hate for Trump. How he could just brainwash people with nonsense that was so easily refuted to not be possible. How was that even something thar people were debating?

That is BS. People voted for Trump because they like the shit he is selling. They chose the lies they want to believe and the scapegoating over the facts and hard-truths they don't want to deal with. Stop blaming the Dems for the weakness, stupidity and selfishness of the Americans that voted for Trump.
