I disagree. I want Arlington residents to submit feedback even if their kids attend private because people pull students out of APS for really good reasons and their feedback is important too. That's why the surveys don't assume all respondents are APS parents.

But APE was wrong to ask Alexandria parents to comment.

Arlington parents with kids in private have no business commenting on APS surveys. It does not affect them in any way. Don't act like people will come back from private with a ridiculous APE policy in place.

What if your kids are in private because APS was doing such a poor job of educating them? Can they comment then?

What if a person is an Arlington taxpayer who thinks that, if they're going to force you to pay for APS, it probably ought to do a good job educating kids? Does their opinion matter?

Whether you approve of Arlington-taxpayers-without-children-currently-attending-APS or not, they are certainly entitled to voice their opinion about school matters.

They can certainly voice their opinions on school matters. Should they influence policy though if it doesn't affect them? Like, at all?

APE has a lot of members with kids in private schools. I bet they all filled it out too.

Because non-APS parents can legitimately participate in the survey. Interested community members, future parents, past parents, etc.
And because not every APS parent is on ParentVue. Some 2-parent households just have one parent using it.
I also think it can be useful to have perspectives from parents who have taken their kids out of APS and put them into private - helps APS identify the "why" and how they are not measuring up.

No thanks I don't want the APEs who moved into private school influencing policy in my kid's school. Go email your private school and influence policies there. Stay out of my kid's school if you are not there.

You seem to lack an understanding of how your school gets paid for. I pay taxes that pay for your schools. I pay taxes that pay for our parks. I pay taxes that pay for government employees. Guess what? I can say anything I want to them.

You, on the other hand, with your phone loving nonsense do not get a say in my children’s private school decision to ban phones. That’s the way it works. Like it or not. Money talks.

Someone should send this response to the school board too.

Lol. We should start emailing private schools advocating for lax cellphone policies. If d**kwad wants to control my child and his teachers, who can't say that I can't annoy some overpaid private school administrators too.

Such a great illustration of the Republican/APE outlook on life.

Y'all are loons. And you don't seem to understand how anything works.

I bet your kid's private school administrators can't stand you either.

This entire thread is too perfect an example of why schools need to ban phones.

Look at how all of you -- adults, at least some of whom might be partially educated -- use the internet. Insults, snarky personal attacks, childish name calling, etc. Just straight nonsense.

Nailed it. Most of this happened during what is presumably the workday too.

Lol. The gaslighting is strong with these ones. Can't APE just admit that they were wrong? Nope. Because their whole life story is that they're right and everyone else is beneath them.

Last I saw, a lot of APEs were here during the day too, defending the undefendable.

Y'all need to get off your phones too.

No you don't get to influence rules in a school you don't attend. Sorry.

Most of the APEs don't have kids in high school, but they also want to influence policies in high school too. NOPE.

And APE are the being insulting, being snarky, making personal attacks, childish name calling, etc. It's what the APEs do. Just like their hero Trump.

I’m a democrat! And I send my kid to private school. And I voice my opinion on APS. Because I’m entitled to and I’m a taxpayer and…. Wait for it, my kid was in APS. And wait for it again, may return to APS. Guess what? Bunch of parents with kids who’ve completed APS still participate in APS policymaking. The idea that you could limit contribution to only current APS parents is so … incorrect and something the Board would not only not care about but would be against! It’s not just APS or families in APS with school age children or families who have ever been a part of APS. The school board is voted on by taxpayers. Can you imagine and school board member saying that their platform was: I’m going to limit listening on policy to just current APS families? Absolutely none of them say this. Why? Because you aren’t right about this. And so go ahead and send my response to the school board. It’s 100% valid. My vote is the same as yours. If you don’t like it, go to private. Like I did!

He’s one of the co-chairs on an APS advisory committee.

That's Truly Terrible.
