You don't know many athletes, do you?

This thread illustrates just how girls get eating disorders.

PP doesn’t know many teens, athletes or otherwise.

I have two teen sons. Both play 3 sports each.

My daughter is only in elementary and everyone is stick skinny. I occasionally see a large girl in ballet but in her actual school, I can’t think of any large girls.

All my kids are thin. My boys are muscular.

I haven't been a hundred lbs since 5th grade. You haven't even listed a height with that weight. I assure you my 5'7" teen would look skeletal at 100 lbs.

My kids play tennis as their main sport. Those are the girls I see most.

Some girls are not thin. You are correct. I have seen some girls who are bigger than my sons.

My kid just started high school. Middle school girls look petite and thin and 100 pounds.

There are some kids in high school who look like grown men.

My kids play tennis too and at the high school level, there are definitely plenty of girls that are not thin. Not obese looking, but a variation in sizes for sure

Pp here. My son is on the varsity tennis team. I just looked at their team photo from last year. Everyone is thin on the boys and girls team except 1 boy and 1 girl. They are a little thicker but everyone else looks lean.

So you were the poster who wrote “teen girls are usually thin and weigh 100 pounds” and you based that on observations of elementary school girls? People, regardless of OP’s daughter’s specific issues, teen girls need fat on their bodies in order for their biological processes to function properly. They are not supposed to be rail thin.

Rich athletic guys marry skinny or slim athletic girls. All you need to do is do that for 5 or 6 generations and most of the fat genes get weeded out.

Richer areas tend to be more thin. Our country club has almost no fat people. Our wealthy neighborhood has no fat people.

We moved from a mixed SES neighborhood to a wealthy neighborhood and there are almost no fat women.

This is the benefit of the school and its ethos. You’re getting your child to see the world a little differently, make them a bit uncomfortable, make them work on themselves, improve, and compete. And with all of that will come confidence. This is all good. This is why you pay the big bucks. So you don’t get stuck in a school where it’s normalized to goof off, slack, and not care about your appearance.

I agree. Even my very slim (23 in waist at almost 17) daughter is 108-115. When she was 100lb she was struggling with disordered eating. And this was when she was more like 14. I can’t imagine my daughter any smaller, at 5’4.5.

I do think 115-120 might be a typical weight for girls this age. If any are 100 lb theY are well below average height and frame. I know she only has one friend who is overweight. And I know this is tough for this girl to be the fat friend. Very few girls I see are big even at our regular public school

+1 Most people are overweight because they consume many carbs and sugar.

I’m the person who wrote the 100 pound comment. I don’t actually know how much any of these girls weigh. They look skinny to me. My also thin boys weigh around 120-130 pounds. These girls are shorter and thinner so I just assumed they weigh 100. They probably weigh 110-120? I weigh 125 pounds and they are significantly skinner than I am.

eh.. my 5'6" DD is 109 lbs. She is super thin, but she eats normally and does one physical activity year round. Fast metabolism runs on both sides. Both spouse and I were super skinny until like 30. We are also smaller boned.

None of this discussion about weight if really helping OP, IMO.

“Disordered eating“ from the previous post is what should jump out at you. Valuing girls acc to their weight is disordered thinking. That is what you are passing along to your daughters. And sons.

Pp again. I hang out with very thin women. I am the heavier one in my friend group. This was the case when I was in high school, college and now. I probably weighed 105 in high school, 115 in college and 125 now. I remember feeling chubby in college at 115.

That is some serious disordered thinking.

That is definitely not us. We eat well. We eat dessert after meals. We are an active and healthy family.

My entire extended family is thin.

I’m 5’4” with a small frame and large breasts. I gain all my weight in my face and stomach so that 5-10 pounds hits quickly. My thinking isn’t disordered.

Great. Why do you think you judge girls’ worth acc to their weight?
