Disagree if we're thinking undergraduate. Brown is excellent for STEM. PLME + top notch CS and excellent math and neuroscience. Doesn’t have the grad associated research that some of the other top schools have because it is just more focused on undergraduate, which is great IMO. I have a kid there.

Their other engineering programs are extremely meh. Lots of better options for CS as well.

Sigh… you have no idea what you are talking about. Brown’s CS department is legendary, especially WRT computer graphics. Google Andy Van Dam and the founders of a little company called Pixar.

i work for google and no it’s not as respected as MIT, Princeton, Penn, Cornell, Illinois, Harvard, Michigan, Caltech, Berkeley, UCLA, amongst a slew of other schools.

You actually dont know wtf you are talking about.

That’s not what you said. You said there were “lots of better options”. Not “10”. You slagged the school without knowing it’s strong suit. If you knew what you were talking about you would have mentioned CMU before Princeton. And IMHO Brown CS is more impressive than U of I or UCLA and equal to Michigan’s.

And I have hired programmers for 30 years so your brag is not impressive to me.

i named 10 out of many many more. Brown CS is ranked 23rd for undergrad by US News, and that's generous.

No, Brown CS is not as impressive as Michigan or U of I.

Yes, you did make that mistake also.

Quite a mistake. People tend to forget things when focused on "Brown"

Not "10" when I mentioned "amongst a slew of other schools" lol.

I disagree.

And I will point out that you admit there are only 22 schools ranked higher, out of 3,000 universities. That’s your argument that there are “plenty of better choices”? 22 of them? That Brown is in the bottom half of the top 1%?

Weak. Lol.

I’m not interested in hyperbole. When people have evidence they present it. When they don’t they use hyperbole. We’ve established the number now as 22. I don’t know the hyperbole dictionary’s definition of “slew” is, but I would expect it to be more than 12.

Not google, but 10 years recruiting top tech and these PLUS stanford are our “target 10” . Brown is not even in the next 10

22 is generous. What do you think slew means? You're really exhibiting your intelligence here. We're arguing why Brown isn't as good as the other top 10 privates here. Congrats, you're better than University of Rhode Island for CS. Happy now?

Ranking list just shuffle same 20 schools and throw in a surprise or two and everyone goes blue defending their favorites. These are all good schools, any kid who gets in would do well in life if he/she kept up the pace, even if he instead chooses a low ranking school for cost. Admissions to any of these is a stroke of luck, same applicant can make it to Harvard and not get in Rice or make it to Duke but not get in Princeton. Chill and wish them well, wherever they end up.

Better schools than CalTech

Well that’s great since they are much easier admits. It’s near impossible to get into Brown now.
