Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS)
Really? I feel like my HS kids could spent two solid weeks just getting caught up on sleep and overdue assignments. They are so chronically exhausted and overworked. Gee, they might even have time to see cousins, bake cookies, read a book for pleasure, have a family movie night, and for my senior,, work on the RD applications. We won’t have time for any of that with a one week break. She’ll sleep for most of it, I bet. |
Jealous much? MCPS his hiring! Come get in on that easy job action. I'm sure you'd be great at the job. |
| Any chance we'll start after labor day in 2024? |
| Eh. The pay is crap and they expect double unpaid overtime. When the non renew you for not handling the mistreatment and mismanagement they lie to the unemployment office. It's a mess. These kids are violent. Just don't try to take their phones away. |
Certainly hope not. |
+1 In fact, I wish we’d start 2 weeks before Labor Day and get out earlier in June. |
The end of the Labor Day start calendar is a mess. |
Yes, no one wants to be in school that late into June. |

They've posted the superintendent's recommendation for the 24-25 calendar, which will be voted on by the board tomorrow evening. Some highlights:
• The first day of school is Monday, August 26, 2024. • The last day of school is Friday, June 13, 2025. • Winter break with the student break beginning Saturday, December 21, 2024, and ending Wednesday, January 1, 2025. The total number of days, including two weekends, results in an 11-day winter break. • Spring break with the student break beginning Saturday, April 12, 2025, and ending Monday, April 21, 2025. The total days, including two weekends, results in a 10-day spring break. https://go.boarddocs.com/mabe/mcpsmd/Board.nsf/files/CY3Q2B671DB3/$file/2024-2025%20School%20Yr%20Calendars%20231205.pdf |
| Thank you for the update! |
| I'm fine with the calendar Monifa is recommending to the board. |
| Going back too early for this swim family!! |
This sounds more like the MCPS my kids go to. So many posts here make it sound like classrooms are out of control and everyone gets A's for not turning in any work. |
Yes, Dr. McKnight's calendar is awesome! |

First semester: 95 days
Second semester: 87 days |
