Just wish the teachers would not need to come back to school on Monday after the weekend to close out the year. Too bad there is no way to finish just one day earlier so that teacher last day could be Friday, June 13.

Every time that has happened since I started teaching principals would let you checkout on the Friday provided that you were actually done with everything, grades turned in, and room cleaned up.

Not at the school where I taught. Either come in to check out (about 15 minutes) or take 8 hours of leave. Like every other situation in MCPS, it depends on your principal. Not fair, but that is the reality.

One year, our professional day was Friday. I was scheduled to start a one week MCPS grad course on Monday. If you missed any class time, you couldn’t pass. Due to excessive snow days, school ended on Friday. MCPS wouldn’t change the grade course dates although everyone taking it was impacted. I had to take personal leave so I didn’t miss class.

The board just voted to approve the recommended calendar.

Sucks!

As a parent and a teacher, I don’t find it worse than previous years’ versions.

What specifically did you find sucky?

Why do we need to return on Jan 2nd which is a Thursday?? Why not just add 2 more days to the winter break?

So we don’t have to stay two more days in June.

While 2 days isn't as crazy as 1 they should either shorten to the minimum 180 or cut 2 other random non school days that aren't low attendance issues.

Yeah since the 1st day is a Monday and the tentative last day barring make up days is a Friday they need to cut 2 other random no school days.

Spring break is so late. What a bummer for kids - 3 1/2 months with no meaningful break. And then school ends less than 2 months later.

Unpopular opinion. I wish summer were 6-7 weeks and we had longer winter break, a February vacation week, etc.

They could have spring break March 31-April 4 separate from Easter while still having April 18 and 21 off.
It turns off March 31 is already a non student day (but could be used as a makeup day) so they don't need to change anything else if spring break were moved there.
