• The first day of school is Monday, August 26, 2024.

• Winter break with the student break beginning Saturday, December 21, 2024, and ending Wednesday, January 1, 2025. The total number of days, including two weekends, results in an 11-day winter break.
• Spring break with the student break beginning Saturday, April 12, 2025, and ending Monday, April 21, 2025. The total days, including two weekends, results in a 10-day spring break.

Just wish the teachers would not need to come back to school on Monday after the weekend to close out the year. Too bad there is no way to finish just one day earlier so that teacher last day could be Friday, June 13.

Every time that has happened since I started teaching principals would let you checkout on the Friday provided that you were actually done with everything, grades turned in, and room cleaned up.

I don't understand why they can't even them out. They should be equal for HS classes - as they are all a semester long.

Lots will be absent Jan. 2-3. I suspect teachers will plan on that and those days will be as meaningless as the couple of days before winter break.

Wah. I hope we’re never counting on any of these kids to protect life or limb because the message they’re getting through school is that showing up isn’t important.

In this case, that message is coming from their parents.

Fall semester has summer loss recovery and more breaks. It needs to be longer.

Spring loses 2 weeks to testing, seniors end early, and everyone’s brains are done after Memorial Day. 4th quarter ends up effectively 6 weeks long. The problem, especially in high school, is trying to complete the required minimum number of graded assignments and squeeze in all of the curriculum content for courses designed with 90 days of instruction.

Yes, Dr. McKnight's calendar is awesome!

Its not. We need longer winter break. For families that travel internationally, they need atleast 2 weeks to go, come back and recover from jet lag .

Most private schools have 2 weeks off for winter break. Fairfax county also has 2 weeks of winter break. Why can’t mcps follow suit? If is ridiculous to give barely 10 days off. Why cant we start 2 weeks before labor day? This is ridiculous. Summer break is unnecessarily long and winter break is too short.

I prefer having days off scattered around the calendar to a 2 week winter break. Like Ben said: Fish and kids stink after three days!
