The winter break is the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard of. Good luck getting students there for two days but yet, teachers will be expected to be there. Absolutely ridiculous. Find

Pretty soon people will be complaining that they have to go to school when there are only five days in a week.

Absurd comparison, but nice attempt at trolling even though it was extremely weak.

Just wish the teachers would not need to come back to school on Monday after the weekend to close out the year. Too bad there is no way to finish just one day earlier so that teacher last day could be Friday, June 13.

Every time that has happened since I started teaching principals would let you checkout on the Friday provided that you were actually done with everything, grades turned in, and room cleaned up.

Not at the school where I taught. Either come in to check out (about 15 minutes) or take 8 hours of leave. Like every other situation in MCPS, it depends on your principal. Not fair, but that is the reality.

Why cant we start 2 weeks before labor day? This is ridiculous. Summer break is unnecessarily long and winter break is too short.

Exactly right.

As a parent and a teacher, I don’t find it worse than previous years’ versions.

What specifically did you find sucky?

I’ve attended private and public. And I’ve had kids in private and public. We had fewer than 180 days in private. Breaks were too long. One summer, my daughter got out 6/1 and didn’t return until early September.

Why do we need to return on Jan 2nd which is a Thursday?? Why not just add 2 more days to the winter break?

+1. I guess if they did that they would have had to have school start two days earlier or end two days later. Which I think would be preferable either way.

Your comments are so unnecessary. The point is that starting the school week on a Thursday is ridiculous-it's obviously not about having school on a Thursday. Anyone with a brain could figure that out, but I guess you have nothing better to do than troll DCUM forums which is just pathetic and sad.
