You want to get paid more? Do a better job.

If there is a lower start and cap/ban on raise, it doesn't matter how hard or how well someone works.

Also DCUM: You government tech workers, lawyers, scientists and engineers making up to $183.5k are so overpaid.

High earners in law and tech have zero job security, and a layoff after 50 can effectively end their careers. A federal salary is basically an annuity as long as you do 10 hours of work per week.

Noted as I just filed my time cards showing 80-105 hrs/pay period for the last 2 months with no paid overtime.

Obama would have taken a major hit for attempting to raise salaries for federal workers while many people were unable to find work. So I don’t fault him at all. That’s just how things are.

Most employees are already getting regular step increases, so they’re not going without a raise unless they’re capped.

Are you a fed? Stop being so wimpy. We are NOT in a recession- we are in a major inflationary environment where private sector wages are going up. If there was ever a time where a large COLA was justified, it’s now.

The mythology is strong with this one.

Thank you for admitting you’ve never met a federal worker.

That post was not written by a long-term career Federal employee. They’re one now, but likely have not been long enough to understand the issue. They’ll learn. This post will come from some else in 10 years and they’ll sound like we do.

Also Republicans: Federal employees shouldn't get any increase in pay because there is no inflation!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Republicans don’t appear to be fighting the pay increase.

They’re focused on reducing telework (not unreasonable) and eliminating coverage of employee abortions and transgender surgeries (lol).

None of the federal insurance plans cover abortions. What are you blathering about?

Just quoting the article which you didn’t bother to read:

“The bill also targets telework, options in the TSP’s mutual fund window, and FEHB coverage for abortions and gender-affirming care for transgender individuals.”

Please point out which Federal insurance plan currently covers voluntary abortions. I’ll wait.

I was just summarizing the article, I have no idea why you're getting so riled up over abortion. It doesn't matter to me what the federal plans cover. The fact is the GOP seems to be focusing on denying abortion coverage (whatever impact that may or may not have) rather than denying a pay raise, which is probably a good thing for federal workers, since this will go nowhere in the Senate.

The House appropriations bill discussed in the article contains the following provisions:

"SEC. 613. No funds appropriated by this Act shall be available to pay for an abortion, or the administrative expenses in connection with any health plan under the Federal employees health benefits program which provides any benefits or coverage for abortions.

SEC. 614. The provision of section 613 shall not apply where the life of the mother would be endangered if the fetus were carried to term, or the pregnancy is the result of an act of rape or incest."

You were parroting misinformation.

How is summarizing a legislative proposal misinformation?

Because federal plans don’t cover elective abortions.

No one said they do! The GOP’s proposal contains a statutory prohibition on such coverage, now and in the future.

Breaking news: GOP makes an idiotic proposal!

Remember when Obama gave us nothing and then nothing again and when he had large segments of government furloughed without pay (and no we didn’t get it back from the sequester like from a lapsed appropriation).

Stop assuming one party will help you over another.

What government workers didn’t get paid after the shutdown?

Everyone affected by the sequester. Not the appropriations lapse that happened the same year, but the sequestration itself. My husband and I (both DoD) lost 20% of our pay for however many weeks. I want to say it ended up being 5 but was was supposed to be much longer. Those of you that weren’t affected don’t remember or even recognize it as reality but trust me….we were not refunded the loss.

And yeah, it was them, but also it was him.

You did not lose five weeks of pay. I too work for a DoD agency, and sequestration was for one pay period, or two weeks. There is no need to exaggerate, as it was a trying time for many people in the country. My office lost six or seven attorneys during that time. Three of them retired fearing their retirement numbers would be impacted. The other four attorneys transitioned back into private service with a big F-U to federal service.

Are you back in the office full time, and what type of work do you do?

I did not say I lost 5 weeks of pay. I said I lost 20% of my pay over 5 weeks. It was 6 weeks, actually, and the proof is in the link I sent you. You may have not been furloughed the same number of weeks but don’t call BS on something that I’ve already proven. Also it was me and my husband so we both lost 6 working days of pay.

It’s not happening. Keep smoking pot and dreaming. The government cannot afford this for the many asswipes that work there, make many phone calls, attend meetings in which they accomplish jack shit, nod their heads, take many notes, and shuffle along taking years to get work done. Waste of space, time, travel expenses, and salaries. You think all these walruses that cannot get hired in the private sector are gonna get a 5% raise year? Yeah right. Now you are flying high on the good stuff. Please send me some. I wanna fly higher than a kite too.

Think what you want but the President usually gets what he asks for and this is what he already requested.

You know it’s harder to get hired by the government than the private sector, right?
