Private matter for each women. No one is telling you what to do nor should they. But if you continue to insist on making wanting to force your decision making on other women you will continue to be punished on election day. This is a looking issue for republicans. |
Losing issue for republicans. |
No, it’s not. Most women who choose abortion already have at least one child. They’re not sluts in college. |
No it's not you ignoramous |
Can't we now determine the father in all of these instances? And make them pay for the child and take care of it? 50/50 right? A lot of men pressure their girlfriends to have abortions. |
Ok. Let’s look “long and hard” at 22 year old Sara with multiple partners and an inconsistent use of birth control. Is it in the best interests of Sara to have a child? If she’s not great at taking birth control why do you think she’s going to be great at taking prenatals? Basically does your argument boil down to Sara should be legally required to give birth…because she didn’t take a pill every day? Does that make any kind of sense to you? That a child should be raised by a 22 year old (guessing single mother because of your multiple partners comment) in adverse economic conditions because that will show her? Whose interests do you serve here? It’s not Sara’s. It’s not the child’s. It’s not the states because they’ll be paying for the healthcare and the education and the early intervention. It’s just the interest of…controlling women? |
Sorry just to add, I meant to say “legally give birth in a country with the highest maternal mortality in the developed world” |
I would be very in favor of policies that would make it easier for women to choose not to have abortions. When will the pro-life team come up with their plan for ending workplace discrimination against pregnant women, ensuring access to high quality childcare so women can continue to work, improving our healthcare system so women aren’t literally risking their lives to have babies, providing health care for all so that women whose children have birth defects aren’t faced with bankruptcy if they choose to deliver, etc? |
College education primes you to be a Democrat. Most urban areas have high concentration of college educated people, and they tend to make higher incomes. College education among women especially is the primary driver - feminism and careerism widely promoted in colleges tends to be in contradiction with traditional family roles, religion, and lack of choices when it comes to reproductive health (and less control over your life). It's not rocket science. Most people don't think too hard beyond what's shoved down their throats and try not to dwell on nuances. Same goes for the republicans.

George Santos lies through his teeth about being educated to win as a republican. If lower education levels are more appealing to republicans, there would have been no need for that particular con. Low level educational attainment does not prime one to be a Republican. |
There is not much you can do at the workplace if women are going to end up having a lot of kids and not being able to control family size. Career and motherhood (by today's standards) don't go hand in hand. In the old ages when families were large and lower class women still had to work in teh fields or as servants, artisans, etc, child labor was prevalent. Child labor allowed women to keep having kids as their older kids would be pretty much supporting themselves and/or taking care of younger siblings, and many lower class kids were entirely uneducated/illiterate, which obviously takes the pressure off. As far as parenting babies with defects, in the old days many of such babies were simply neglected, not many families could spare resources to care for them. These babies had very short lives back then and in some cases were probably killed at birth. Sad reality of older era worshiped by pro-lifers that they often ignore. |
I didn't say lower level of education is "appealing" to the Republicans. I am pointing out the fact that colleges don't usually just teach academic subjects and specific trade skills. Colleges tend to harbor more "progressivism" than schools, wouldn't you agree? Also.. People who vote down strict party lines sometimes are one-issue voters. Abortion can be that one-issue for many people. |
So lower level of education would vote to outlaw abortion and more educated voters would vote pro choice if they were one issue abortion voters? That smacks of manipulation of less educated voters |
Sara created another life. There are responsibilities that go with behavior. I knew at least a few Saras when I was in college who had multiple abortions. I’d like to see the Saras of this world not be considered victims. |
DP. There’s nothing objectionable about Sara having an abortion if she doesn’t want to be a mother, whether she “created a life” or not. It’s her body that will have to incubate it, and it’s her choice to do it or not to do it. At the time she’d have the abortion, it’s a fetus, not a person. |
