Ventured out to Loudoun tonight. I think what we are seeing is Riverside is finally dealing with what many Loudoun teams have been and are dealing with - fewer and fewer girls playing club lacrosse. Ash has a few of her club players on her high school team play, but 3d is not a strong club program. These players will not have much impact at the high school level. Chatted with some nice parents and they mentioned Riverside had four commits. One is their goalie who did not play at all. Two others sat for long stretches. Riverside pretty much cleared bench. Agree Riverside never seemed in sync. It seemed like every several minutes they had kids in different positions and never settled into one lineup for a long period. I guess Ash is trying to figure out the puzzle and letting everyone play in their scrimmages. |
Whatever helps you sleep at night |
Do you just travel around nova watching girls high school lax. That’s pretty creepy |
More like a disguise of a Battlefield fan coming here to post when they win. |
wow you finally figured us out. You are so smart. |
No need to disguise. Team went to to Riverside and dominated play. Big step for them. Never have beaten Riverside. Up 7-0 at one point then 12-4 at half. Riverside dialed scoreboard back to 0-0 at half and it was 3-3 at one point before time out was called. Cats then finished them. Draw control was a big contributor to the score. Always a great atmosphere and hosts at Riverside. |
Does Battlefield have any commits or top club players? Seems like they have to have some sort of edge to generate this score over a team like riverside with 4 commits. |
They have a Team USA U-16 player I believe… |
Battlefield has some Capital blue girls, no USA U-16, the only player on USA developmental team from the area is at Visi and plays in B-More for M&D. |
1 D3
1 D1 |
She’s in the NTDP. Don’t think she was on the most recent team. But still, point is made they have some talent. |
One D1 commit
3 2025s are UA150 and American Select attendees 2025 made the NTDP Well coached team and in general Battlefield does very well in all sports. |
The challenge with Loudoun is that many of the top players leave for private schools. The U-16 player you mention is a good example. She lives in Loudoun. The top choice (school-wise) most recently is PVI since it's west of the beltway. However, many girls jump on the toll road or other East/West roads to go into the city to attend school like Visi, SSSA, Potomac, etc. If you live closer to the city and your daughter will attend a school like Yorktown, Mclean, Langley, etc., with a greater amount of good players, the private school option seems less attractive (Although it's still common).
The private school migration allows players to continue to play lacrosse at a high level in high school with their travel mates. Otherwise, you only have 1 or 2 good players in each Loudoun high school. Some teams even fewer. This is not unique to lacrosse. Top football, basketball, etc. kids are doing the same thing. I expect both Riverside and Dominion to be weaker in the coming years as a result. It's unfortunate for kids that want to play at a high level and are good enough to play at a high/private school level, but want to attend their public high school for whatever reason. My daughter played at her public school and graduated last year while my son is currently in 7th grade. We are grappling with the public/private school decision now. He's a very good lacrosse player and student. Just my observations over the last few years. |
I agree. Battlefield does not seem to lose as many to private schools as many others have |
The gates of their gated communities work both ways. Lock the riff-raff out, lock the lax players in.... |
