Liberal here (woman) who hates violence but would be making Molotov cocktails myself in the schoolyards if Russia invaded. So many cowards on all sides showing their stripes in this thread.
This is the danger in not believing in the promise of America. We’re not perfect, Ukraine isn’t perfect, but we are worth defending, worth dying for. Cynicism hiding under a blanket of moral outrage allows evil to thrive. The hope of brave people in the face of hopeless problems is the best of humanity. |
Maybe because the Russian soldiers realize this is wrong. From accounts I have read, many did not know what they were doing at the border and some believed Putin's propaganda. |
Wow, you’re a POS. You have shamed our country and our armed forces. Feel free to move on over to Russia, they also have pretty strong feelings about gender and sex issues over there. Their military is so strong, they have to conscript children and lie to them about what they are being sent to do. Their people have it together so much, they imprison anyone who steps out of line and bans entire categories of alternate thought. Their orphanages are filled with the best and brightest of children. Some of us believe we are better and stronger for our diversity. We outnumber you. And yeah, we won’t hesitate to call you out for what you are and let you know your viewpoint is no longer welcome here. But like I said, you’d be at home in Russia so feel free to head over there, if you can find a flight or a boat that can manage to get between here and there right now. |
Their hearts are not in it. Apparently lots of troops were tricked into going to Ukraine, being told it was training. https://www.haaretz.com/world-news/europe/.premium.HIGHLIGHT-why-is-he-there-russian-mothers-say-soldiers-tricked-into-going-to-ukraine-1.10633865 |
I think that plus when they see a Ukrainian, they don’t instinctively see “other” like if they were operating in Syria or Afghanistan or even Chechnya. |
Obvious troll is obvious STOP FEEDING THE TROLL |
The importance of this can’t be overstated. I’m not Slavic but one of the news reports featured a little kid that looked just like my own, and I damn near lost it. Not to say kids of other colors are less than, but it hits you even harder when the kids are dead ringers for your own. You can’t even pretend they are some kind of “other” and somehow deserve what you are doing to them. |
They absolutely know where they are and why they are there. It is part of their training to say deny knowledge if they are caught. As for restraint, they’ve been bombardons Kyiv almost nonstop and it’s still day 3 ![]() |
There are lots of videos of tanks stopping (except one video) when civilians stand in front. Russian troops asking women to please go back inside. There is zero chance a Russian tank in 1970s Afghanistan would hit the brakes if an Afghan stood in front od one. |
Because our political discussions have become about trivialities, scoring points, and saying “no.” America has had it good for so long we’ve forgotten what matters. Heck, some sizable portion of the country would rather talk about civil war than work to prevent it. Americans have become lazy and parochial. I wish we had an event to unite us. Maybe Ukraine’s defense is it. Once and for all we’re seeing who supports Putin and his ilk. That isn’t American and people who support him are not our patriots. |
Ukraine seems to have a lot less overweight people in their regular population.
More of them seem to be in “fighting shape” than we are. I don’t think public mobilization could happen here. |
BREAKING: US And EU agree to remove select Russian banks from SWIFT, impose restrictions on Russian Central Bank |
You could be right, but I don't think being in "fighting shape" is the reason why. |
Why only select?!!! Just remove the whole country from swift. |
Tocqueville Paradox. |
