Not gonna lie, Ukraine is awesome fighting as a unified country and peoples. Very inspirational.

I don’t think I would take up arms to support the us. I don’t have much in common with most.

I think people are looking to Zelensky and his leadership but he is fighting for his homeland and his peoples.

The us is just one big economic zone.

You would suddenly find common ground if Russia were attacking.

Nah, I’d fly out to another country well in advance.

You have a country in mind? Some do, but most can't stay indefinitely in another country.

Yeah I have a second passport for an eu country & open ended Permanent residency for a third option not in nato .

You are right. You don't have much in common with most. You should leave if economic advantage is what your life is all about. We will remember that you left.

I mean in my neighborhood — I see two houses with trump sjmifns and pick up trucks with truck nuts.

Then there is an Arab family.

Then there is a group house with a bunch of odd hipster types.

You look at the Ukraine pics and everyone seems normal and has lots in common with each other.

Would you prefer the homogeneity of the 19th century?

No.

I’m just saying I’m not all that confident things would come together like they have for Ukraine.

And the subtext of what you are saying veers eerily close to what anti-immigration types argue.

What would an acceptable, face-saving exit even look like for Putin?

Aren’t those types pro Russia and anti Ukraine?

The assault on Kyiv hasn’t begun in earnest- I am hopeful for Ukraine but I would caution some of the optimism that I fear is premature.

Time will tell.

That does not seem like it would be acceptable or face-saving to Putin.

Why didn’t Russia cut off all internet and mobile comms and blanket the country in jammers?

How are mobile phones and internet still working in Ukraine ?

What kind of pre-invasion tactics are these?

The other option is nato now knows he is weak - you have to go for his throat .

The caliber of Ukrainian women politicians:

Wow. She’d easily become president in the Us.

Why don’t we have politicians like her?

Because this is their homeland. They do not want to be ruled by a tyrant.
You must not understand that for many people, freedom is worth sacrificing one's life.

Well, the person you are responding to likely has tantrums around the freedom not to wear a mask during a pandemic, not understanding what ACTUAL freedom entails.

I mean, the patriots to the PP are the people who attacked the Capitol, whereas in Uktraine, the patriots in Ukraine are DEFENDING the capital.

It does sort of make one realize just how stupid and silly the US has become (Yes I’m pointing at you Trump and Koch acolytes and anyone courting totalitarianism and the unwitting fools caught up in it all)

Ukrainian grandmas armed and ready to give their lives to defend their country and families facing an actual real danger willing to defend their democracy and country. And normal Citizens in Russia willing to go to jail or worse living under a dictator but still protesting what their government, and not a swastika in sight. Really really brings home how absolutely stupid the right wing nuts in this country have become and how they are trying to drag good and decent people lives down. It also can’t help but be reminded of the images from Jan 6 from the capital that were beamed around the world. What a contrast. Wow!

Ugh with your stupid butt hurt wah I don’t want to wear a mask and you can’t make me, ban books that run counter to my personal beliefs, grievances and your stupid sons taking your families weapons stash to movie theaters and kindergarten classrooms to shoot up little kids.

Well guess what this is what it looks like when you get what you want. This doesn’t end well for Ukraine but it really really doesn’t end well for Putin. Stop your histrionics. Button up and get it together. Sniveling fools. You are collectively sick and this country would be so much better off without you.

Rant over.

I would agree that "It does sort of make one realize just how stupid and silly the US has become."
But my opinion is far different from yours.

We have a military that is seemingly more interested in "equity" and "diversity training" than in actual combat readiness. We have a generation of woke progressives far more interested in proclaiming their pronouns than in doing actual service to their country. We have schools focusing on race and promoting sexual content to children instead of teaching content children need to learn in order to be successful, productive citizens. We have social media companies deciding who to censor because of "fake news" yet these same companies won't censor the actual accounts of dictators and tyrants. And, let's not even get started on the whole notion that a man can be pregnant. If you want to discuss histrionics and "getting it together," maybe we should start with the insane issues that we have been forced to focus on. Yes, indeed, there are things far more important that pronouns or diversity training or what color a person is who is hired or which of the 72 genders one belongs to.

And, if anyone dares to object to such things, they are labeled as tranphobic or white supremacist or racist or some other "ist."

And, then we have a White House that promotes silly Tik Tok videos, focuses on identity politics in their hiring, and promotes itself for being the "first" for really, really ridiculous things. (first transgender hire, first drag queen hire, etc., etc.)

So, yes, the US looks pretty silly when you take all this into consideration. Especially when you see the courage and resolve of the Ukrainian people.

It is interesting seeing Russians practice very restrained RoE

Very unlike Georgia, Chechnya, Syria or Afghanistan.

I wonder why.
