Let’s say air traffic controllers sick out, Reps can say “just sign the bill and people get paid” while Dems will reply with a wall of text about why we need to extend a temporary Covid measure because that gives us leverage.

The fact is that Trump / Republicans will always have the long-term upper hand in the shutdown because Democrats are generally the party of providing more government services to people — and their voters will be hit harder when services are not funded.

This is actually false and the irony of the whole thing. Red states take more from the federal government than they pay in and red state residents take more from the federal government than blue states and blue state voters. It will suck for everyone, but it will suck more for the MAGAs who voted for this.

Trump's goal is to keep the government closed. MAGA needs to realize this. I'm shocked that the Dems haven't given in, and it sucks for so many people and the economy, but good on them for not caving. He and Johnson and Vance are tyrants.

For Democrats to accept any CR they need to get something in return. But in order for that to happen Mike Johnson needs to bring the House back. Somebody needs to tell him that "my way or the highway" is not how Bill's become law.
