ACPS- Changing from Hybrid to DL?

Additionally, I received emails AND a phone call from MY child’s school confirming our preference. How in the world you got that I “never received contact or chose not to respond” from that is beyond me...

Even assuming that this is all true for you and your family personally, I can 100 percent guarantee you that GWMS or Hammond, where there are hundreds of kids per grade (more than at my child's entire ES) and up to 7 teachers per student for various subjects, is not doing this.

At Hammond they definitely did. I know Hammond teachers and staff who have told me that they did, and I believe them.

I guess it depended on the school and admin. At our school, we had all of our Monday meetings cancelled in December to reach out to every parent to find out their choice. However, I agree with the frustration that parents (and staff) were it "wasn't binding" to find out out now it actually was. I wanted to choose for my own children to remain virtual as (I had hoped at the time to remain due to childcare and a pre-exiting health condition), but picked hybrid. I am uncertain if my elementary aged child will actually go back due to all of the constraints, but am glad that I have the option.

I do agree that families should have been quickly re-assessed when hybrid was "actually" decided to return. I now many families that picked hybrid that have chosen to remain virtual and others that chose to remain virtual, but are open to hybrid now. I think the underlying issue is staffing. I now for me, I still have to figure our child care for my kids on their non in-person days when I return to the classroom.

Honestly, this all sucks and I wish we didn't have to experience any of this.

I wish we weren't going through this too. I also wish that we were going through it with a competent central office.

Could ACPS be anymore of a joke?

Now they are sending us texts and emails (5 between my husband and I) showing us how to "prepare for returning to the classroom" during Hybrid.

Except, they told us we can't change our selection from virtual to hybrid. So why are they sending us this?

Is this just to taunt us?

Or are they actually that incompetent and unprofessional that they can't understand how rude and confusing such information is to people in our situation??

They always seem to be able to hit new lows.

It's not like they shared any new information anyway. Love that they are doing a 15 minute webinar to cover questions. LOL! And Hutching will spend 14 minutes and 51 seconds serving up word salad.

Ok, well assuming they are telling the truth, that again raises the question of why there is no consistency. My son is at Hammond, and no one contacted us. It doesn't affect our decision, because we would have remained virtual regardless (he is diabetic), but still, why would they not treat all students the same? Ridiculously disorganized.

You didn't receive any emails about it? You didn't receive any PTA newsletters about it? You didn't receive a Principal's newsletter about it? If you have an email on file at the school then you were contacted. Stop being a snowflake and demanding a phone call. Let the staff go after the people who don't have your same resources. Gosh some of you people are unbelievable.

But ACPS said the choice was NOT BINDING. That is the issue and ACPS chooses to ignore it.

Sometimes I wonder whether people deliberately miss the point. No one is demanding a phone call. They said one thing; did another. Barely anyone is surprised.

Also, curious: are people still saying "snowflake"?

Look, I remember reading it very carefully and thinking that the choice we made, if we chose DL, was binding but not vice versa. I don't have the newsletters from back then but we discussed it in our household for about a week before choosing DL. When I clicked the button I had my kids right beside me and they knew we were "stuck" with our choice when I selected DL. I don't know why I would be singled out for a DIFFERENT message than you but perhaps they singled you out on purpose??? JK. I am sure we got the same letter. Maybe you didn't read yours.

Your impression of what something you can't even recall said from a few months ago is totally irrelevant. They absolutely, without question, did not say or even intimate the choice to stay virtual was binding.

But, again, everyone should have expected it because ... why wouldn't they do this.

People are discussing two different issues:

1) the choice was presented as non-binding--I don't think anyone is defending this
2) whether or not people were informed about the survey

I have sent email asked specifically if we can change the choice later on, and was told it was not binding.

Hold onto that email.
