ACPS- Changing from Hybrid to DL?

Do you think there is a single free lunch family that will be told they can't have what they want?

I do. The only thing ACPS does equitably is fail all kids.

If anyone gets to "adjust" their choice as ACPS stated they could back in December it will be the pushy well off parents. They have bullied their kids into TAG, honors classes and on to sports teams. They will do the same thing here.

Not if the redistricting fiasco was any indicator. I now several pushy well off parents who were forced from their preferred elementary even while free lunch kids from outside the district (some even living in Maryland) continued at their preferred school. If there's one thing central does well, it's take care of their own.

And I'll add that's one of the reasons we moved out of Alexandria this summer. It was exhausting dealing with all the problems in ACPS. You don't get that elsewhere.

Everyone will be watching closely and one thing is guaranteed - a reopening by ACPS will be a mess. We selected hybrid but I have no faith that ACPS will manage anything properly.

ACPS and Hutchings claimed this summer that they had hybrid ready to go. It was obvious that wasn't true then and it's obvious it isn't true now. Two months ago they couldn't manage six kids going back for a week.

Congratulations on your move. You're right, t's time to move on from ACPS and Alexandria. I've been active in town for years and I'm done. It's become such a toxic place. The adorableness of Old Town isn't worth it.

Among the saddest things that elementary kids will deal with upon return: They can't use the playground, despite there being not one documented case of transmission from surfaces. Asked what kids will do during recess, one principal suggested walks and sidewalk chalk.

If it's so exhausting why are you still here tiring yourself out in these threads?

Are they really not allowing kids to play on the playgrounds? There is no evidence-based reason for that. My kids also watched a video last fall about having to wear gloves to eat lunch. Again, not sure this is based in any sound scientific recommendation.

I mean, they are pretty anti-child in ACPS, so maybe they'll ban the playgrounds. But childcare that is operating in schools currently allows kids to play on the playground, so maybe the kids will be let out? But probably they'll keep the kids inside out of spite.

DP. Two things:
1.) I think you over estimate the effort required to post three sentences on a message board.
2.) You work for ACPS. And I use "work" very lightly.

We were told my the principal at our elementary that kids would not be able to be on the playground, bc they didn't have the staffing to clean them after each use. Never mind that cleaning things after each use outdoors seems totally unncessary based on what we know about how the virus transmits. I understand they are being super cautious, but at what cost to the kids?

Not sure where you're going with this, but we were told pretty clearly...no playground time.

Campagna Kids has been running child care centers at two ACPS elementary schools. The kids enrolled in Campanga at George Mason have been using the playground. I've never seen any cleaning happening. Does this mean that Campagna has been operating against either ACPS' protocols or against CDC protocols since September?

Or is this just a case of a vendor doing exactly what ACPS has been saying is impossible (until they were ordered to open by the state government). Again.

This is not based on any scientific evidence! Alexandria City playgrounds are open, in use, and not being cleaned. How absolutely infuriating!

I agree. All I know is what was said in the meeting.
