ACPS- Changing from Hybrid to DL?

I mean, they are pretty anti-child in ACPS, so maybe they'll ban the playgrounds. But childcare that is operating in schools currently allows kids to play on the playground, so maybe the kids will be let out? But probably they'll keep the kids inside out of spite.

I think ACPS is even more anti-critical parent than anti-child.

I think it is so disingenuous that it is excluding students from hybrid based on the allegedly non-binding December choice.

We were told my the principal at our elementary that kids would not be able to be on the playground, bc they didn't have the staffing to clean them after each use. Never mind that cleaning things after each use outdoors seems totally unncessary based on what we know about how the virus transmits. I understand they are being super cautious, but at what cost to the kids?

This is not based on any scientific evidence! Alexandria City playgrounds are open, in use, and not being cleaned. How absolutely infuriating!

LOL! When has scientific evidence every played a role at ACPS? Just as School Board member Margaret "Do you want your child to be alive or educated?" Lorber.

They'll say it's all because of equity i.e. their catch all word that is now code for "stop asking questions and stop using critical thinking".

Has anyone seen any official communication & information coming from their schools? It's a month out from general education going back but I've seen nothing other than a link to the ACPS express.

If it's so exhausting why are you still here tiring yourself out in these threads?

DP. Two things:
1.) I think you over estimate the effort required to post three sentences on a message board.
2.) You work for ACPS. And I use "work" very lightly.

I don't work for ACPS, and I'm not defending them. I'd just prefer to have these discussions with people who actually still have kids in the system and I don't really get why people who left still hang out here talking about things they are no longer experiencing. If you were offering constructive ideas or suggestions for ways you dealt with things in the past that would be helpful, but just coming in to tell us how bad the system is does not help us!

ACPS’s comments on its Facebook page seems to suggest that the teachers are supposed to respond to parent questions. It seems like an inefficient communication approach.

My special needs child is 2 weeks out from returning and we've heard nothing as well.

And completely unfair to teachers. It's like ACPS central office WANTS a bad dynamic between parents and teachers.

I thought their communications would improve with the long needed departure of Helen Lloyd. Guess I was wrong.

It's helpful to know that other people have recently left/are leaving Alexandria partly because of ACPS. A lot of parents haven't experienced anything else other than ACPS in public education and their neighbors/fellow parents tell them everything is great at their school. I see a weird need in Alexandria to defend ACPS and a drive to silence parents who don't agree with them. It's cult like.

+1. We can't move because it would significantly increase my husband's transit commute, but we decided to homeschool after witnessing all the problems in ACPS.

It’s unbelievable (yet also not). I’m so sorry. Hope you get some answers soon on what to expect.

The poor communication throughout this process has just made everything worse. I still don’t understand why they pulled out the six special needs kids that briefly went back. Then they started using crazy metrics that would never allow reopening and now suddenly we are supposedly going back March 15th with barely any details provided and no phasing in approach. I’ve lost all faith in the ACPS system after this year.

I'm so sorry. If they can't treat parents with special needs children with kindness and respect, there really is no hope.

It's frustrating. I'm beginning to doubt whether we are actually going back on March 2nd. With the new CDC guidelines, maybe they'll use them as an excuse to "pause" and examine the "feasibility" for the millionth time.

Helen Lloyd is no longer with ACPS? Are you sure? Everything online seems to suggest she is still there heading up communications. Communication definitely could use improvement. Our elementary school principal recently said that ACPS wanted a consistent message to come from central office and only central office.

Never mind, I now see she moved to FCPS at the end of December. "'Ms. Lloyd has demonstrated proven leadership and has a track record of success in her work with Alexandria City Public Schools,' said Brabrand." I beg to differ.
