I wouldn’t put it past them to hasten her death.

It is vile. But it would mean at election time conservative voters who find Trump repugnant and were only going to vote for him for the Supreme Court would no longer have that carrot dangling in front of them. Maybe having that new justice will keep them home.

Very good point. The news media will now focus on her funeral/legacy, then off to the races on the Supreme Court nominee’s background, confirmation hearings, etc. COVID news will be back burner.

THIS.

He knows his constituents. Guns, God, Gays. And corporate welfare.

Biden's campaign should ram this down their throats. People vote their pocketbooks and a lot are broke. No help from the GOP for American people. This resonates.

Grassley has already said that he would not consider a SC justice nomination in 2020. So have Murkowski, Collins and Romney. Unless McConnell can pressure these four to change their minds, they have all publicly said that they would not vote to fill a SC seat in 2020. And they have all said so in the last few months.

Graham said it in 2018. So we'll see if he keeps his word.

Lindsey has a surprisingly tough re-election this year. He’ll cave.

You can scream and cry all you want, but Trump will nominate an extreme conservative and a Republican Senate will quickly confirm. Is it fair? No, absolutely not. But that’s what’s going to happen. And the Dems won’t pack the Court if they win the Presidency and the Senate (and that’s a big if), because then the Republicans would just do the same down the road. This is all very nasty and sad, but it’s what will happen. End of debate. End of story.

People don't care about covid anyway. People care about the economy. That's not changing.

You know none of this for certain. 2020 has been a very surprising year.

Agreed.

Although I don't see the harm in packing the court. How would the Rs doing the same later make the Dems any worse off than the current situation.

They shouldn't worry so much about what the Rs will do - the Rs will do want they want in any event.

The answer to all of your questions is: money.

People whose kids are doing "distance learning" care about COVID.

Jamie Harrison is a very strong candidate and Lindsey Graham has said many stupid things lately. I think he will try to convince the Senate to hold off on the vote until after the election. But in the lame duck session they could do anything

+1 there’s about 20 million unemployed Americans right now. So many kids out of school or in school for partial days which means their parents have a hard time working. Elderly are afraid to see families and friends. Even the rich are grumpy that they can’t travel to nice places overseas. There is literally no one I have heard of in real life who doesn’t care about CoVid.

Except that their logic seems a bit faulty about what would happen later. The Dems would pack the court because the Rs are doing whatever the hell they please and it matters not to the Rs what the Dems do anyway. There are no rules to the game anymore. Gloves are off.
